Ethnic Studies Instructor
North Orange County Community College District – Fullerton College, FC Ethnic Studies & Student Equity Department. Full Time, Tenure Track, 10 months per year, 100% employment.
Job DescriptionTeach lower division courses in Ethnic Studies and related areas to a diverse student population.
Participate in curriculum development, serve on departmental, divisional, college, and district committees, and engage in professional development activities.
Participate in co‑curricular activities, including planning, implementing, and teaching in special programs supporting student success.
Contribute to the formulation and assessment of Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs).
Maintain formal office and campus hours; attend department and division meetings.
Maintain current knowledge of instructional methods and emerging technologies; apply such technologies to perform duties efficiently.
Teach scheduled classes and fulfill related duties, including clerical responsibilities and compliance with district, college, and division policies.
Prepare course materials, implement effective teaching methodologies, and provide critical feedback to support diverse student achievement.
Develop culturally relevant content and responsive pedagogical practices for historically underserved students, including African American, Latinx, Native American, Pacific Islander and others.
Work cooperatively with staff and students. Evening and/or weekend assignments may be required.
Primary PurposeDuties and responsibilities as presented are representative and not restrictive. The District reserves the right to modify the assignment in accordance with operational needs.
Special RequirementsThe award of all degrees must be verifiable on a legible transcript. Grade cards are not accepted. All degrees must be submitted from accredited postsecondary institutions. Evaluations of foreign degrees are required.
Minimum Qualifications- Master’s in African‑American/Black/Africana Studies, Latino Studies, La Raza Studies, Chicana/o Studies, Asian‑American Studies, or Native American/Indian Studies
- OR Master’s in Ethnic Studies
- OR valid California teaching credential authorizing service in a community college in the appropriate subject area
- OR equivalent qualifications determined by the District Equivalency Committee
- Commitment to diversity and demonstrated sensitivity to diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds.
- Recent experience teaching Ethnic Studies courses in higher education
- Master’s degree in Comparative Ethnic Studies
- Expertise in Critical/Relational Ethnic Studies, Queer Communities of Color, Race and Popular Culture, Social Movements, Restorative and Transformative Justice praxis, or related areas
- Demonstrated experience mentoring Black/African American, Latinx, Indigenous/Native American, Asian Pacific Islander American, and/or other disproportionately impacted students
- Capability to support diverse student populations across ages, abilities, genders, sexual orientations, religions, racial and ethnic identities, socioeconomic backgrounds, and academic preparation
- Interest/experience teaching Ethnic Studies to high‑school students with age‑appropriate, culturally sustaining pedagogy
- Commitment to continuous improvement of teaching and mentorship practices for racially marginalized students
- Knowledge of effective instructional technologies and online pedagogies, including training or certification in online teaching modalities
- Experience designing creative, student‑centered, experiential learning environments such as project‑based learning, community‑engaged or service learning, and multimodal assessment practices
- Engagement in the discipline through scholarship, creative work, professional service, or community involvement
- Knowledge of major epistemological frameworks in Ethnic Studies, including decolonial and feminist methods and transformative pedagogical approaches
Salary Range: $85,541 – $128,379 annually.

Initial salary placement will be determined by the Office of Human Resources under the faculty collective bargaining agreement and is not negotiable. The selected candidate must provide official transcripts, identification, employment eligibility verification, fingerprints and required medical certification. No visa sponsorship is offered.
