chinese studies - part-time lecturer pool. The department of modern languages and literatures at csu fullerton invites applications for its part-time lecturer pool in chinese studies to teach undergraduate courses in chinese language, culture, business, art, literature, linguistics and/or film.

we are seeking highly motivated, well-organized individuals to teach in at least two of the following subject areas:

• chinese language, introductory to advanced
• chinese culture, chinese civilization, and contemporary china
• chinese for business
• chinese literature, intermediate to advanced
• chinese linguistics
• chinese film

this is a pool of part-time lecturers for the department to draw on as necessary. Qualified applicants will be contacted when positions are available.

appointments from the part-time pool are temporary and often made just prior to the start of the academic term. Applicants must be available on very short notice.

• candidates must hold at least a master s degree in chinese, chinese studies, or a related field and possess native-like fluency in chinese to teach lower-division (100- and 200-level) courses, and must hold a ph.d. (or be a ph.d. Candidate) in chinese studies or a related field and possess native-like fluency in chinese in order to teach upper-division (300-level) courses.
• candidates should demonstrate their ability to interact and work effectively with a wide and culturally diverse range of students, including first-generation college students.
• this position requires the legal right to work in the united states of america. California state university, fullerton cannot sponsor part-time faculty for work visas or permanent residence.

• preference will be given to candidates with prior teaching experience at the college or university level and who can furnish evidence of strong teaching
• preference will also be given to those with experience in working with diverse populations and fostering a collaborative, supportive and inclusive environment.

the need for part-time faculty is greatest in fall and spring semesters. The fall term begins in late august and ends in mid-december; the spring term runs from mid-january through the end of may. On rare occasions part-time faculty are needed during one of the summer session segments.

regular performance evaluations of part-time lecturers are made by the department in accord with the faculty collective bargaining agreement and university policy. Evaluations determine which lecturers will be retained for future teaching assignments, and syllabi, assignments and reading material may be reviewed by the departmental personnel committee.

all part-time faculty appointments are made as lecturers, under the terms of the collective bargaining agreement. Initial appointments are for one semester only. Classification range: $5,507 - $6,677 per month. Anticipated hiring range depending on qualifications, not to exceed $6,221 per month. Salary is prorated to the number of units worked and paid in six monthly payments for each full semester.

For a three-unit assignment, typical starting compensation ranges from $6,608.40 to $7,465.20 per semester.
