Description

At Family Health West Wellness we provide exercise programming to enhance life span for all ages, but especially for middle age and older adults. Use your knowledge and creativity every day to help our clients live active and healthy lives. Our work includes:

  • Rock Steady Boxing Classes for Parkinson's
  • Strength & Balance Group Exercise
  • Personal exercise training for a variety of clients including those with complex medical history
  • Nutrition coaching for a variety of health concerns
  • Fitness Testing
  • Educational Wellness Lectures/Workshops
  • Bariatric program support
Education, Licenses, Certification and Experience

Education:

Bachelor’s Degree in Exercise Science or related field required.

Licenses:
No professional license required.

Certifications:

Current BLS certification required. Personal training or other pertinent certifications required.

Experience:

One to three months related experience and/or training preferred. Experience with Parkinson’s Disease and/or boxing fitness is a bonus.

Essential Functions

General duties and responsibilities include:

  • Be knowledgeable of wellness assessment equipment and cardio/strength training equipment.
  • Maintain reliable and punctual attendance; wear identification while on duty.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all information including patient, customer, employee, and business information.
  • Complete work within designated time and communicate effectively to support positive team dynamics.
  • Demonstrate professional conduct and clear communication; adapt as needed under stress.
  • Use knowledge of chronic illnesses to determine appropriate exercise programs for all participants in individual and group settings.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of risk stratification, exercise prescription, testing procedures, interpretation, and contraindications for moderate to high risk populations.
  • Design and implement progressive exercise programming focused on cardiovascular fitness, functional strength, muscle endurance, and balance.
  • Provide ongoing motivation and support to encourage adherence to exercise prescription.
  • Monitor and interpret vital measurements pre, intra, and post exercise; provide assistance to FHW’s Rehabilitation Department as needed.
  • Maintain documentation of participant progress for individual sessions and encourage communication with physicians and/or therapists.
  • Conduct ongoing drop-in group exercise sessions with safety considerations and exercise modifications.
  • Collaborate with other departments to support patient care and performance improvement activities.
  • Schedule participant appointments and handle program payments when possible.
  • Oversee maintenance and scheduling for group exercise classes.
  • Participate in and/or lead community-based programs as directed.
  • Develop, organize and implement wellness workshops and provide community lectures as needed.
  • Write articles for the Wellness Corner in the FHW employee newsletter.
  • Work with marketing to increase wellness program participation.
  • Treat all staff, participants, patients and their families with respect and dignity; be sensitive to psychosocial needs.
  • Participate in performance improvement activities for department and organizational CQI initiatives.
  • Meet current documentation standards and policies; participate in educational and staff development activities.
  • Support orientation and in-service training for staff members; participate in guidance and educational programs.
  • Participate in infection control, equipment training, and safety programs.
  • Operate equipment safely, maintain department cleanliness and safety.
  • Work as a team member and be accountable for own responsibilities.
  • Serve, manage, and support internal and external customers including peers and physicians.
  • Foster relationships with all colleagues to meet internal and external customer needs.
  • Maintain good working relationships within and across departments; assist others with problem solving.
  • Other job-related duties as assigned.
