Overview
The City of Frostburg is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Water Department Assistant Supervisor. The Assistant Supervisor supports the Water Department Supervisor in overseeing daily operations related to water distribution and maintenance to help ensure safe, reliable, and compliant water services while assisting with staff supervision, scheduling, and operational planning. This is a full-time position that requires regular exposure to varying weather conditions and the ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays during emergency situations.
Regular hours for this position are 7:00am to 3:00pm, Monday to Friday.

Responsibilities- Assist the Supervisor in managing daily operations of the water distribution system.
- Perform and assist with inspections, maintenance, and repair of water mains, valves, meters, hydrants, and related facilities.
- Respond to customer service concerns, complaints, and emergency situations.
- Supervise and support Water Department staff in the absence of the Supervisor.
- Assist in coordinating work schedules and job assignments.
- Assist with inventory control, equipment usage, and supply ordering.
- Maintain accurate records and reports related to operations, maintenance, and safety.
- Support training of new employees and ongoing staff development.
- Promote and enforce workplace safety policies and procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Water Department Supervisor and Director of Public Works.
- Education:
HS diploma, GED or equivalent;
Associate degree or technical training in water utilities, public works, or a related field preferred. - Current Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).
- Ability to pass pre-employment drug screening.
- 7+ years of field experience in public utilities and road construction.
- Knowledge of water system operations, maintenance practices, and safety standards.
- Demonstrated experience in a lead or supervisory role.
- Strong leadership, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability use computer-based systems for recordkeeping and reporting.
- Ability to walk, climb, kneel, stoop, and lift as required for field work.
- Ability to effectively communicate using written and spoken English.
