Mechanic – School Bus Vehicle Repair

Frisco Independent School District seeks a qualified mechanic to perform mechanical repairs, preventive maintenance, and diagnostics on district school bus vehicles to ensure vehicle performance and safety.

Responsibilities
  • Diagnose mechanical problems using diagnostic equipment.
  • Perform welding and minor bodywork as needed.
  • Service vehicles according to preventive maintenance schedules, including tire rotation, balancing, oil and filter changes, lubrication, inspection and replacement of hoses, belts, mirrors, lamps, and fluid levels.
  • Maintain accurate, updated records of preventive maintenance.
  • Inspect vehicles and evaluate the condition of systems, equipment, accessories, and lights; provide service as needed.
  • Operate tools, equipment, and machinery in accordance with prescribed safety procedures.
  • Correct unsafe conditions in the work area and report any conditions that are not correctable to the supervisor immediately.
  • Maintain accurate records of time and materials required to perform repairs and services.
  • Follow established procedures to complete assigned projects.
  • Work irregular hours as needed.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Associate degree in auto repair, ASE certification, or Texas Association of School Bus Technicians certification, or willingness to obtain certification.
  • Valid Texas commercial driver’s license (Class

    B).
  • Basic knowledge of school bus and automotive mechanical components.
  • Ability to operate equipment and tools involved in vehicle repair.
  • Ability to lift heavy equipment and vehicle parts.
  • Ability to pass required bus driver safety training and operate school bus.
  • Acceptable driving record.
  • Minimum two years of experience as a mechanic preferred.
Benefits and Working Conditions

Frequent standing, frequent kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting. Heavy lifting and carrying (45 pounds and over) on a daily basis. Work outside and inside on slippery or uneven walking surfaces; frequent exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures, dust, toxic chemicals and materials, noise, vibration, and electrical hazards. May work in tight or enclosed spaces; regularly work irregular hours; occasional prolonged hours.
