The Assistant in Training (AIT) and Assistant Manager position’s primary responsibility is to fulfill our mission statement, “to create the most enjoyable shopping experience possible for our Guests.” The AIT and Assistant Managers perform a variety of sales, merchandising and operational tasks assigned by store management (e.g. cashiering, merchandise display and pulls, register procedures, and routine cleaning of facilities). Work directly with the Store Manager and Leadership Team to develop sales, recruit new Teammates and provide leadership.
The AIT and Assistant Manager will also share responsibility for training and motivating Teammates and act as the Store Manager in their absence. The Assistant Manager Position is a progression from the AIT position and therefore includes additional high level duties that are specific to that position, though the majority of job duties and responsibilities are shared.

SalesGeneration and Guest Service
- Greet Guests with a friendly, engaging attitude, and consistently provide legendary service to each Guest
- Answer questions regarding the store and its merchandise
- Recommend, select, and help locate or obtain merchandise based on Guest needs and desires
- Anticipate and fulfill Guest’s needs by suggesting additional items and creating a wardrobing experience
- Demonstrate product knowledge and sales education, sharing knowledge with the Team
- Maintain knowledge of current sales and promotions, policies regarding payment and exchanges, and security practices
- Maintain personal sales and look for opportunities to improve Teammates’ presentations
- Achieve personal sales-per-hour, average sales and total net sales goals set by Store Management
- Provide legendary service throughout the store in Front 5, sales floor, fitting rooms and the register area
- Know exchange and return procedures and apply showmanship opportunities
- Utilize the Sales Presentation Guide (SPG) daily to accomplish goals
- Meet or exceed performance standards in Buckle business builders and guest loyalty programs
- Identify opportunities to expand Guest selection through inventory tools and product search
- Build and maintain Guest relationships to develop a client-based business
- Lead by example with showmanship, customer service and attentiveness
- Share Guest levels with the Team and communicate feedback
- Proactively engage in business-focused conversations with Manager, Team Leaders and Teammates
- Be coachable and welcome feedback to improve sales presentations
- Demonstrate leadership actions and uphold high standards whether the Manager is present
- Collaborate with the Store Manager to plan sales goals
- Take ownership of store sales performance
- Recognize recruiting opportunities using available channels and referrals
- Coach and develop relationships through Guest Loyalty and Guest Preferred
- Develop skills and assist in leading, directing, motivating and educating new Teammates to meet Buckle standards
- Maintain a positive floor culture and dress code to reflect latest fashion
- Participate in daily setup, training, and Performance Tracker reviews
- Motivate Teammates to complete daily tasks set by Store Management
- Demonstrate denim showmanship and fit card best practices with Teammates and Guests
- Support department goals and manage training needs in collaboration with leadership
- Assist Store Manager in recruitment of store staffing needs
- Explain pay and Buckle Benefits to Teammates
- Maintain up-to-date contact lists and target top talent
- Lead training shifts and leadership playbook execution
- Ensure accountability for all characteristic pieces
