Position: Senior / Staff Propulsion Technician

Yoh has an exciting, contract opportunity for a Propulsion Technician to join our Aerospace & Defense client in Frisco, TX. This onsite role supports advanced UAV propulsion systems in both development and flight test environments.

Title: Propulsion Technician

Compensation: $28.00-$51.00/hour, depending on experience level

Type: Contract (with potential to extend or convert based on performance and business needs)

Industry: Aerospace / Defense

Eligibility: Must be a U.S. Person (ITAR environment)

Responsibilities
  • Assemble, disassemble, and integrate turbine-based propulsion systems for unmanned aircraft platforms.
  • Conduct pre-flight and post-flight inspections to verify engine integrity, performance readiness, and regulatory compliance.
  • Operate and support engine test cell activities, including validation runs, performance tuning, and data collection.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve mechanical, electrical, and fuel-related issues affecting propulsion system performance.
  • Partner with engineering and flight test teams to prepare propulsion systems for ground and flight operations.
  • Document maintenance actions, configuration changes, inspections, and test results with full traceability.
  • Follow established safety standards and operating procedures when handling high-performance engines and related support equipment.
  • Contribute to the development and refinement of detailed work instructions to standardize engine build, integration, and maintenance processes.
Qualifications & Requirements
  • 5+ years of hands‑on experience maintaining or building aircraft engines in commercial or military aviation environments.
  • FAA Airframe & Powerplant (A&P) certification required.
  • Strong working knowledge of gas turbine engines and associated subsystems.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret technical manuals, schematics, and engineering documentation.
  • Experience performing engine troubleshooting, inspections, and functional testing.
  • Prior experience within an aerospace manufacturer, MRO facility, or military aviation unit.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with a disciplined, safety‑first approach.
  • Ability to perform effectively in a fast‑paced, high‑precision environment.
  • U.S. Citizenship or ability to meet ITAR compliance requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience supporting turbine‑powered aircraft programs (fighter, UAV, or rotary‑wing platforms).
  • Background in military propulsion systems or jet engine maintenance.
  • Familiarity with fuel systems, ignition systems, and advanced propulsion technologies.
  • Hands‑on experience with engine dynamo meters, ground support equipment, or propulsion test cells.
  • Active security clearance (Secret or higher preferred).
  • Technical degree or certification in Aerospace Technology or a related discipline.
Physical Demands
  • Ability to stand for extended periods in hangar, lab, or test cell environments.
  • Capability to lift and move components and equipment up to approximately 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work around high‑noise environments and rotating machinery (appropriate PPE required).
  • Comfortable working in confined spaces and around aircraft structures during integration activities.
  • Manual dexterity sufficient for detailed mechanical assembly and inspection tasks.
