Fine Arts Teacher – High School Band Director – General Interest

Frisco ISD invites applications for the Fine Arts Teacher – High School Band Director – General Interest position. This full‑time role provides leadership over the instrumental music program, ensuring compliance with district, UIL, and TEA policies while fostering student growth and school community engagement.

Responsibilities

Direct and manage the overall program of instrumental music for the assigned school, providing students with opportunities to participate in extracurricular band activities in accordance with all District, UIL, and TEA requirements.

  • Program Development – Develop an annual calendar of student performance opportunities and events, including at least three major concerts and all required region and state competitions and evaluations.
  • Student Preparation – Maintain eligibility records for UIL and extracurricular activities; prepare students for UIL Solo & Ensemble, UIL Concert, Sight‑Reading Evaluations, and TMEA All‑Region/All‑State audition processes.
  • Personnel Management – Manage all personnel associated with the band program, including paraprofessionals, supplemental instructors, private instructors, clinicians, and guest musicians; assist with recruitment, selection, training, and supervision of assistant band directors and auxiliary staff.
  • Logistics – Arrange transportation, lodging, and meals for out‑of‑town events; comply with federal and state laws, TEA rules, UIL rules, and Frisco ISD policies on Booster Organization oversight.
  • Collaboration & Performance – Actively participate in campus musicians and collaborative events as determined at the campus level; collaborate with directors in the same feeder pattern or across the district.
  • Teaching & Learning – Develop and implement lesson plans for band rehearsals; provide written lesson plans as required; prepare lessons with accommodations for individual student differences; conduct ongoing assessments of student achievement.
  • Student Development – Create an environment conducive to learning; maintain educational records; apply and enforce discipline per the Student Code of Conduct; accompany and supervise students for on‑ and off‑campus activities; be a positive role model.
  • Budget & Resources – Stay within program budget allotment; compile budgets and cost estimates based on documented needs; coordinate fundraising activities; maintain inventory of fixed assets.
  • Communication – Maintain professional relationships; use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly; hold parent conferences and collaborate with stakeholders.
  • Professional Growth – Participate in staff development; stay informed of state, district, and school regulations; maintain required reports; attend Professional Learning Communities, faculty meetings, and staff committees; maintain knowledge of innovative curriculum practices; participate in TMEA and UIL.
  • Work Environment – Maintain emotional control under stress; perform physical tasks associated with setting up equipment; travel statewide and occasionally district wide; accommodate irregular hours.
Qualifications & Requirements

Education / Certification – Bachelor’s degree in Music or Music Education from an accredited university; valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements.

Special Knowledge / Skills – Extensive content knowledge; operational knowledge of all aspects of instrumental music programs; effective leadership; budget and personnel management; knowledge of state and UIL policies; data interpretation; strong communication, public relations, and interpersonal skills; technological proficiency; collaborative skills.
