Job Overview
Ward F8 is a 31 bedded surgical ward based at Frimley Park Hospital caring for patients under general Surgery. The ward offers excellent support to new members of the team and you can complete various training to support your needs. A full induction to the ward and the band 6 role will be given and ongoing personal development will be planned through the appraisal system.
There are opportunities to undertake leadership courses and the surgical acute care course.

- Support and provide leadership for the nursing team.
- Act as a mentor and lead induction for new staff and students.
- Participate in recruitment and selection of new staff.

Responsibilities- Responsible for the assessment of patient care needs and the development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care without supervision.
- Participate and assist in systematic monitoring and evaluation of nursing practice.
- Participate and assist in setting standards of patient care based on sound evidence‑based findings, implementing these into practice.
- Ensure nursing practices comply with the Trust’s Nursing policies and procedures and maintain high standards of nursing practice.
- Comply at all times with the NMC Code of Conduct (2002).
- Communicate effectively and liaise with all health care staff as appropriate.
- Encourage and maintain good relationships with Medical Staff and other members of the Primary care & Social Services teams to provide the best care.
- Support the implementation and maintenance of Team Nursing within the clinical area, take responsibility for a small case‑load of patients, coordinate and monitor the progress of patients along their critical pathway, report any variance, and take named responsibility for coordinating individual patient discharge.
- Participate in Quality Assurance initiatives within the unit.
- Consolidate and extend own clinical skills in all aspects of nursing, further professional knowledge.
- Ensure all issues relating to the implementation of clinical governance are addressed on the unit, maintain and review the standards of care regularly, participate in changes to improve the service when necessary following complaints, take appropriate risk‑management action, and evaluate quality of care offered to patients.
- Pro‑actively respond to potential complaints to prevent formal complaints from occurring.
- Occasionally coordinate the shift as the ‘nurse in charge’ under the direct supervision of a more senior member of staff; plan, organise and deploy staff according to competencies and workload.
- Assist the Ward Manager in induction of bank/agency and junior staff, ward audit and quality assurance programmes, ensuring adequate supply of equipment and linen.
- Act as a role model and mentor to students and junior staff.
- Undertake the D grade competency programme.
- Contribute to an effective learning environment within the clinical area.
- Maintain own personal & professional development; keep PREP folders up to date.
