Head Lifeguard

Overview

PURPOSE OF THE JOB: Under direct supervision of the Pool Manager and Asst. Managers, assists in supervision of lifeguard performance, the orderly operation, and day-to-day activities of the Municipal pool; oversees programs specific to lifeguarding skills including in-service training, audits, and the Jr. Lifeguard program.

• Maintain smooth operations of the pool and facility, especially in absence of the Manager on Duty. Ensure safety of all patrons and staff at the pool facility by visually scanning all areas; determine whether patrons are in distress, implement Emergency Action Plan, perform in-water rescues or assist, and provide first aid and/or CPR as necessary.
• Enforce facility rules promptly and courteously; maintain safety on-deck and in-water; conduct visual walkthroughs of the facility.
• Assist with regular in-service safety training for staff; lead staff in skill practices and Emergency Action Practice according to American Red Cross and City of Friendswood policies/procedures.
• Work with management to conduct and evaluate regular lifeguard skills audits.
• Responsible for the lesson planning, preparation, instruction, implementation, and reporting for the City of Friendswood's Junior Lifeguard Program.
• Assist in the preparation of materials and providing patrons with information on those programs.
• Assist in monitoring lifeguard rotations, position of guards on stand, appropriate use of equipment and staff uniforms, and guard alertness/behavior.
• Assist with pre-season preparations; assist with first aid inventory, skill drills, and other tasks.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

• High school graduate preferred with a minimum of one year experience in water safety/lifeguarding.
• Must have CPR Certification or equivalent, American Red Cross First Aid Certification or equivalent, Red Cross Lifeguard Certification or equivalent. Lifeguard Instructor Certification preferred.
