Position Description

The City of Fresno is currently recruiting for a Park Equipment Mechanic Lead worker. Under general supervision, the incumbent provides lead direction and participates in the repair and servicing of standard and specialized grounds maintenance and landscape equipment.

This position exists in the General Services Department. Immediate and future vacancies will be filled from this eligible list for a period of three (3) months from the date the eligible list is created, with the option of extending that period at the City's discretion. If the examination process is suspended for this recruitment, the eligible list may be limited to three (3) months.

Requirements
  • Two (2) years of experience equivalent to that gained as a Park Equipment Mechanic II with the City of Fresno.
  • For experience to be deemed equivalent to that gained as a Park Equipment Mechanic II, three (3) years of paid experience in the maintenance, service and repair of grounds maintenance and non-automotive equipment is required.
  • Examples of qualifying experience include the overhauling, repairing and servicing a variety of specialized mowing, grounds maintenance and landscape equipment such as edgers, sweepers, renovators, sod cutters, compressors, water pumps, cement mixers, and pesticide sprayers.
  • Possession of a valid California Driver's License is required at time of appointment.
Additional Requirements

This position requires possession of a valid driver's license. Candidates considered for hire must provide proof of a valid driver's license and current copy of their driving record. The selected eligible candidates certified will be required to successfully pass a Department interview and a Department of Justice fingerprint prior to employment with the City of Fresno.

Selection Process
  • Application Review – Qualifying Only:
    Applications which meet the minimum qualifications will be reviewed and a limited number of the most qualified candidates will be invited to the oral examination.
  • Oral Examination – 100%: A panel of subject matter experts may conduct a job-related oral examination to evaluate a candidate’s knowledge, skills and abilities in the areas of interpersonal and leadership skills, overhauling, repairing, and servicing a variety of specialized maintenance and landscaping equipment, equipment inventory and safety measures;
    Candidates must achieve a passing score to qualify for the eligible list. The oral examination is tentatively scheduled for the week of:
    September 29, 2025.

  • Short term disability:
    Provided through California SDI program.
  • Bilingual premium:
    Pay $100 per month.
  • Health reimbursement arrangement:
    Eligible retirees can use remaining Sick Leave balance at 80% of hourly rate and other leave balances to reimburse medical insurance and qualified medical expenses, tax free.
  • Retirement:
    City of Fresno Retirement System; vested after 5 years; no Social Security. Deferred Retirement Option Program (DROP) allows deposit of retirement benefits in a special savings account while working up to 10 years, age 50 and vested required.
