Market Coordinator (Part-Time) | 25–29 hrs/week | $24–$25/hour
The Downtown Fresno Partnership is seeking a part-time Market Coordinator to lead day-to-day operations of The Market on Kern while supporting other Downtown Fresno events as part of a collaborative events portfolio.
This position reports to the Events Manager and works closely with all members of the DFP team. The ideal candidate has a passion for farmers’ markets, local food systems, and community-centered events, and enjoys balancing hands-on, on-site work with administrative and outreach responsibilities.
Success in this role means: a well-run, welcoming market experience for vendors and customers, accurate and timely reporting, and growing community engagement over time.
Key Responsibilities - Market on Kern Operations (Wednesdays)- Lead day-of operations for The Market on Kern.
- Serve as a consistent point of contact for Market on Kern vendors.
- Lead vendor retention and onboarding with support from the Events Manager.
- Coordinate vendor check-in, stall placement, and market logistics.
- Ensure compliance with applicable local, state, and federal regulations.
- Manage EBT, Market Match, WIC, and cash handling per identified procedures with clear documentation.
- Oversee market setup, breakdown, cleanliness, and on-site staff or volunteers.
- Coordinate with on-site security to de-escalate and resolve issues.
- Serve as a primary point of contact for vendors, customers, and community partners.
- Support market programming such as food demos, cultural activations, pop-ups, and special events.
- Assist with recurring DFP events such as Art Hop, Cart Hop, and other Downtown activations as assigned.
- Update social media with market news, vendor highlights, and seasonal content.
• Organize and maintain weekly market supplies.
- Process load lists and reconcile weekly market payments and sales reports.
- Maintain vendor files and administrative records.
- Assist with permits and compliance coordination for Certified Farmers’ Markets.
- Collaborate with the Fresno County Department of Agriculture and other agencies as needed.
- Support outreach and marketing related to WIC, Cal Fresh, and Market Match.
- Develop digital and print promotional materials and assist with community outreach.
- Attend weekly supervision meetings with the Events Manager and other required meetings or trainings.
- Participate as part of a design team planning for a future downtown weekend farmers’ market, schedule and duties permitting.
- Collaborate with internal teams and partners to support DFP’s broader event strategy.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Minimum 3 years of relevant experience (farmers’ markets, events, retail, nonprofit, community programs, customer service, etc.).
- Strong organizational, communication, and time-management skills.
- Experience working with vendors or small business owners.
- Comfortable handling cash per established procedures with attention to accuracy and documentation.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
- Proficiency with Microsoft 365, Zoom, and social media platforms.
- Availability to work Wednesdays and occasional evenings or weekends as needed.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish (additional Valley grower languages encouraged).
- Experience working at or with a Certified Farmers’ Market.
- Familiarity with food retail, regulatory compliance, or Department of Agriculture standards.
- Experience working with underserved or diverse communities.
- Use of a personal automobile (proof of insurance required).
- Weekly hours may flex seasonally based on market schedules and programming.
- Occasional evenings, weekends, and holidays may be required.
- This position may evolve into a full-time role with benefits in late 2026 or 2027, depending on growth of DFP’s farmers’ market portfolio, funding availability, and mutual interest.
