Assistant Attorney; Civil Division

The U.S. Attorney's Office represents the Federal government in virtually all litigation involving the United States in the Eastern District of California. This includes all criminal prosecutions for violations of Federal law, civil lawsuits by and against the government, and actions to collect judgments and restitution on behalf of victims and taxpayers.

• Applicants must possess a J.D. Degree.
• Applicants must be an active member of the bar (any U.S. jurisdiction) in good standing.
• Applicants must have at least 1 year post‑J.D. legal or other relevant experience.
• United States citizenship is required.

• At least three to five years of experience litigating cases with substantial responsibility for discovery, trial, and appeals.
• Quick analytical ability and the capability to accurately and precisely articulate the critical issues in a case.
• Superior oral and written skills, strong research and interpersonal skills, and good judgment.
• Excellent communication and courtroom skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with attorneys, paralegals, support staff, and client agencies.
• Demonstrated capacity to function in a highly demanding environment.
• Self‑sufficient legal research and writing, including day‑to‑day correspondence and pleadings preparation.
• Excellent computer literacy, including experience with automated Internet research, electronic court filing, electronic e‑mail, and word‑processing systems.
