Medical Assistant II
Job Summary:
Under the supervision of the Health Center Nurse (HCN) and/or the Health Center Nurse II (HCNII), the Medical Assistant II (MAII) of Omni Family Health (Omni) provides support to a growing network of state-of-the-art health centers serving California's Central Valley. As a member of the organization's Medical Department, the MAII is part of the team concept in the center's health delivery system, which is devoted to the delivery of primary care in an ambulatory setting with an emphases on prevention and health maintenance.
The MAII is an allied health care professional who performs administrative, clerical, and technical supportive services in assistance to the clinical staff as required in accordance with the established policies and procedures.
Job Duties:
* Provides clinical and clerical support to the clinical staff and patients
* Assist management with clinical operations in maintaining efficient patient flow and quality care. Helps coordinate scheduling for all MA's and ensures proper completion of assigned duties/responsibilities.
* Helps mentor and train current and new MA staff and extern students on policies, procedures, and protocols.
* Reviews provider schedule and prepares exam rooms accordingly based on procedure and/or visit.
* Prepares patients for examination by performing preliminary physical tests; taking height, weight, blood pressure, temperature, and measuring vital signs.
* Verifies patient information by interviewing patient, recording medical history, symptoms, and confirming purpose of visit.
* Assist the clinical staff with performing exams and procedures.
* Reviews provider notes, completes lab orders, referrals, medication refills, and other necessary forms. Responsible for following up on referrals in a timely manner.
* Administers medications and injections for written orders.
* Collects and prepares laboratory samples and/or performs Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) waived testing.
* Schedules follow-up appointments and/or any other services ordered by the provider.
* Cleans and restocks the exam room after each patient, including disinfecting surfaces and sterilizing instruments/equipment.
* Keeps supplies ready by inventorying stock. Ensures exam rooms are well supplied.
* Keeps equipment operating efficiently by following operating instructions, troubleshooting breakdowns, maintaining supplies, performing basic preventative maintenance, and notifying leadership of any necessary repairs.
* Manages and oversees the tracking system for immunizations, pap smears, and breast lumps.
* Assists in overseeing the tracking of abnormal Pap and Mammograms in each site.
* Coordinate with clinic management in preparation for audits and lead in completing all required Corrective Actions.
* Collects, assesses, and reports data for Quality Improvement reports. Ensures compliance and may be requested to attend meetings.
* Coordinates data collection for chronic disease management models (e.g. Diabetes Collaborative, Cardiovascular and Asthma Studies).
* Assist the medical staff in patient education and family planning counseling.
* Provides HIV/Antibody counseling in accordance with established protocols and in compliance with State and Federal requirements.
* Participates and helps coordinates the MA staff involvement in all Omni activities (e.g. Health Fair, outreach programs, and company functions).
* Responsible for securing patient information by completing and safeguarding medical records and keeping patient information confidential.
* Maintains a safe, secure, and healthy work environment by establishing and following standards and procedures and complying with legal regulations.
* Ensures the department provides cohesive support to the mission, vision, and core values while delivering superior customer service.
* Works closely with all corporate branches, division, and/or departments in accordance with Omni's policies and procedures.
* Other duties and/or responsibilities as the MAII may be assigned from time to time.
* Must be able to travel and work at various Omni clinic locations.
