Job Description

This position will support the US Department of Veterans Affairs Critical Staffing Program. The person will represent International SOS Government Medical Services, Inc. and provide phlebotomy services as described below.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide routine and STAT testing on blood, urine, and other body fluids.
  • Collect, transport, process, and evaluate specimen suitability for testing, including receiving, delivering, and storing specimens for all lab sections.
  • Positively identify patients prior to sample collection and sample prior to testing or aliquoting.
  • Safeguard electronic and paper patient information.
  • Independently test, evaluate, document, and report patient testing and quality control (QC); identify, document, and resolve any collection, processing, testing or reporting issues.
  • Assure patient-centered care and provide service in a professional manner to avoid complaints from stakeholders.
  • Follow all established patient safety and infection control standards of care.
  • Make every effort to prevent falls and patient injury caused by acts of commission or omission in the delivery of care; report any patient injury or safety breaches per VA Safety Policy.
  • Complete required organizational compliance education, including Joint Commission Healthcare Staffing Services certification or other regulatory bodies.
Qualifications Basic Requirements / Certifications
  • Current phlebotomy certification from the state of California.
  • 6 months of experience performing venipunctures.
  • BLS certification.
Education Required
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
Physical Requirements
  • Typical interior/office work environment.
  • Sitting and standing for prolonged periods.
  • Bending, stooping, and lifting up to 15 lbs.
Other Special Qualifications
  • Read,, and speak English.
  • US Citizen or Permanent Resident Card required.
  • VA Public Trust Clearance.
