Position SummaryThis Maintenance Transportation Engineer (Civil) position is within the Department of Transportation, District 6 Maintenance Program. The incumbent reports to a Senior Transportation Engineer and executes a breadth of engineering duties in support of the district’s maintenance mission.
Key Responsibilities- Perform field reviews, acquire field data, identify and locate distressed pavement.
- Participate in Project Development Team meetings.
- Develop strategies for preparing plans, specifications, cost estimates, written documents, presentations, and other related deliverables.
- Support the management of the Department’s assets (roadways, drainage systems, bridges, safety, facilities, etc.).
- Review project packages for completeness, compliance with standards, and readiness for advertisement.
The position is located at 1352 W Olive Avenue, Fresno County. Duties require working both in an office and in field settings, including driving shoulder vehicles, marking pavement for design and construction purposes under live traffic, driving for long periods, inspecting construction projects, and possibly working overnight stays or hours outside of normal working hours. Telework may be permitted at the discretion of the Department.

Special Requirements- Appointment to Range D requires a valid Professional Engineering License (Civil) issued by the California Board of Registration for Professional Engineers.
- Special Requirements for other ranges: a PE license is not required.
Failure to submit a Statement of Qualifications will disqualify candidates from the hiring process. The SOQ must be typed, no more than two pages in length, and 12‑point Arial font. The SOQ should include answers to the following:
- Demonstrate your ability to work on multiple projects and coordinate with various stakeholders (design, construction, local agencies, etc.).

- Describe a time you had to overcome a difficult situation with a confrontational person.
- Discuss a time you solved a complex engineering problem. Outline the problem, your approach and the outcome.
