Instructional Student Assistant (ISA) – Tutor

Position OverviewThe Learning Center seeks Instructional Student Assistants (ISA) for Tutor positions. Fresno State’s Learning Center encourages students to grow intellectually as critical thinkers. We advance student success by actively using effective learning strategies to improve content understanding and course grades. Tutors facilitate students’ learning of difficult topics within historically challenging courses or subjects.
Key Characteristics- Student support: Meets with students who seek academic support in person or online, drop‑in or by appointment, for a specific subject or specialized skill.
- Schedule: Works 6–17 tutoring hours per week in shifts of at least one hour, one prep hour per week, and two hours per month (Friday 3–5 pm) for monthly meetings with all tutors.
- Location: At the Learning Center for all work hours, except for selected meetings and online drop‑in tutoring shifts.
The department reserves the right to assign Instructional Student Assistants to courses appropriate for the department program and curriculum in any given semester. Due to staff and curriculum changes, courses offered may vary, and no guarantee of employment from semester to semester can be made.

Job Duties- Perform individual and/or group academic support.
- Plan and facilitate outreach and marketing efforts to recruit students.
- Prepare events, materials, and references for students.
- Attend all scheduled tutoring shifts, prep meetings, trainings, and monthly meetings.
- Minimum cumulative Fresno State GPA of 3.0.
- Demonstrated commitment to working effectively with faculty, staff, and students from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
- Must be enrolled at least half‑time in a degree program at Fresno State (at least 6 units for undergraduates and 4 units for graduate students).
- Must have passed the specific course(s) you are applying for with a grade of B or better. (To see course qualifications for each subject, .)
- Letter of recommendation from the applicant’s current or former Fresno State faculty from a relevant department or subject.
The review of applications will begin immediately and may continue for the next semester. For full consideration, the application and all required materials must be submitted by July 15 for the Fall semester and December 15 for the Spring semester. The following documents are required:
- Class schedule: Upload a copy of your class schedule for the semester you are seeking employment. If you have not registered for your next semester courses, you may skip this upload and submit the application.
- Curriculum Vitae (CV) or résumé. Your CV should contain your contact information, employment and educational history, skills such as computer programming, familiarity with commonly used computer programs, and any other experience relevant to education.
- Current unofficial transcripts. If you have attended more than one institution, combine them into one document.
- References (three). Enter first name, last name, type of reference, organization, position title, phone number, and email address for each of your three references.

The salary range for Instructional Student Assistants starts at $17.86 per hour. Check with your department for your base salary. - Assignments:
Made by Department Chair or Program Coordinator after consultation with the candidate. - Instructional Student Assistants are for matriculated students at Fresno State.
- Students are limited to 20 hours of part‑time work on campus.
