The ideal candidate will share Fresno City College’s commitment to educating its racially and socioeconomically diverse student population. For the academic year, we enrolled over 45,000 students in which 68% identify as Latinx, 11% as Asian/Pacific Islander, 4% as Black/African American, 14% as White, 1% as American Indian/Alaska Native, and 2% as multiracial. The successful candidate will join a department dedicated to the use of a curriculum responsive to the students it serves.
- Developing curriculum, assisting in the coordination of the program for metals fabrication/welding technology and instructing the following courses: oxygen-acetylene and plasma cutting, Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW), Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW), Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW), Flux Core Arc Welding (FCAW), manual and semi- and automatic equipment in the flat, horizontal, vertical, and overhead positions with mild steel, aluminum, and stainless steel;
- Attending and passing the NC3 training and utilizing the program in welding courses so students have the opportunity to attain NC3 certifications;
- Sharing in the responsibility of proper maintenance and upkeep of the equipment and supplies used in the welding program;
- Assisting with developing and teaching short term courses, such as summer workshops for students and high school instructors;
- Participating in recruiting activities;
- Participating in appropriate professional meetings and workshops;
- Serving on and attending department, college, and district committees as needed;
- Participating in program review, student learning outcome development and assessment to improve student learning;
- Teaching assignments in a variety of instructional settings and times, including evening and/or weekends, on-line or off-campus and large group instruction classes as needed;
- Otherwise fulfilling all of the duties and responsibilities of instructors as required by Administrative Regulation 7122; and
- Other duties as assigned.
All candidates must have evidence of responsiveness to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, as these factors relate to the need for equity-minded practice within the classroom; and
- Bachelor’s degree and two (2) years of full-time equivalent professional experience; or
- Associate degree and six (6) years of full-time equivalent professional experience; or
- A valid California Community College Credential; or
- The equivalent education and/or experience (requires an equivalency).
