- Develop curriculum, assist in coordination of the metals fabrication/welding technology program, and instruct courses such as oxygen‑acetylene and plasma cutting, Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW), Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW), Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW), Flux Core Arc Welding (FCAW), and manual and semi‑automatic equipment in flat, horizontal, vertical, and overhead positions with mild steel, aluminum, and stainless steel.
- Attend and pass NC3 training and utilize the program in welding courses so students can attain NC3 certifications.
- Share responsibility for proper maintenance and upkeep of equipment and supplies.
- Assist with developing and teaching short‑term courses, such as summer workshops for students and high school instructors.
- Participate in recruiting activities.
- Participate in professional meetings and workshops.
- Serve on and attend department, college, and district committees as needed.
- Participate in program review, student learning outcome development and assessment to improve student learning.
- Deliver teaching assignments in various instructional settings and times, including evenings, weekends, online or off-campus, and large group classes.
- Perform all duties and responsibilities of instructors as required by Administrative Regulation 7122.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree and two (2) years of full‑time equivalent professional experience.
- Associate degree and six (6) years of full‑time equivalent professional experience.
- Valid California Community College Credential.
- Equivalent education and/or experience (requires equivalency).
- Evidence of responsiveness to and understanding of the diverse backgrounds of community college students and an understanding of the need for equity‑minded practice within the classroom.
- Experience and skill incorporating elements of diversity, equity, and inclusion into all responsibilities.
- Recent experience working with racially minoritized students and understanding their historical disparities.
- Willingness to examine and remediate instructional practices to better engage these students.
- Related work and professional experience.
- Experience working with students of various cultural, gender, age, socioeconomic, and ethnic backgrounds, including disabled students.
- Knowledge and acceptance of becoming certified in the National Coalition of Certification Centers (NC3) Lincoln Electric LEEPS Program.
- Skills equivalent to a certified welder in SMAW, GMAW, GTAW, FCAW with mild steel, aluminum, and stainless steel.
- Hold at least one AWS, API 1104, and/or an ASME Section IX certification.
- Hold a CWI (Certified Welding Inspector) credential.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office programs like Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Expected to learn and utilize the district’s learning management system for classes as well as grading and attendance.
- Knowledge and experience with the welding certification program.
- Experience teaching at the community college level.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with students and staff.
- Knowledge of the community college mission and goals.
