Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provide comprehensive counseling services to students, including academic, career, personal and life transition counseling;
  • Assist in the organization and implementation of matriculation activities such as orientation, counseling and follow‑up services to students;
  • Assist students with major selection, career development planning and goal identification;
  • Maintain close working relationships with faculty, feeder high schools, community and other student services support programs;
  • Assist with the development and implementation of the Guided Pathways, Student Equity Achievement (SEA) and other student success initiatives;
  • Lead and collaborate in developing programs and student support services designed to improve student retention and graduation rates;
  • Develop and maintain professional communications and strategic alliances with Colleges & Universities;
  • Work collaboratively with instructional faculty, staff and administrators in the development of student success initiatives and provisions of counseling services;
  • Collaborate with various departments and committees throughout the college to increase access and success for students;
  • Utilize technology to track student progress, implement efficient support services, provide counseling services and make presentations in classrooms and other group settings;
  • Review data on student success and achievement and use the information to adjust student support services;
  • Provide intentional case‑management services to assigned students and provide follow‑up services including Early Alert responses and resource referrals;
  • Assist, as needed, with articulation, student outreach and recruitment activities;
  • Provide assistance and referrals to on/off campus resources and student support services including Admissions & Records, CalWORKs, Career/Transfer & Employment Center, DSP&S, Financial Aid, Academic Success Centers, TRiO and off‑campus community resources;
  • Participate in meetings, conferences, trainings and other professional development activities to maintain the expertise required to provide accurate and reliable information and support to students seeking to complete a certificate, associate degree or transfer;
  • Monitor and implement programs in compliance with federal, state, district and college regulations, policies and procedures;
  • Provide counseling services, as needed, during days, evenings and weekends at on and off‑site locations;
  • Develop and/or revise curriculum and programs, including program review and student learning outcomes for courses and programs to assess student learning;
  • Participate in the accreditation process;
  • Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing;
  • Serve on and attend department, college and district committees as needed;
  • Participate in program review, student learning outcome development and assessment to improve student learning;
