Overview

Responsibilities- Teach a part-time schedule of Philosophy courses as assigned.
- Use a variety of pedagogies and instructional delivery systems, including technology, for face-to-face, online, and/or hybrid formats.
- Communicate effectively with students, faculty and staff.
- Apply effective teaching methods appropriate to the subject matter and adhere to institutionally approved curriculum outlines of record.
- Evaluate student progress through tests, assignments, examinations, and other course objectives; provide course syllabi to students.
- Maintain classroom records in accordance with District Policy; submit all required grading and evaluation reports in a timely manner.
- Be prepared for teaching assignments in a variety of instructional settings and times, and fulfill all duties and responsibilities of instructors as required by Administrative Regulation 7122.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
All candidates must demonstrate responsiveness to and understanding of the diverse backgrounds of community college students and a commitment to equity-minded practice in the classroom.
- Master’s in Philosophy; or
- Bachelor’s in Philosophy and Master’s in Humanities or Religious Studies; or
- A valid California Community College Credential; or
- Equivalent education and/or experience (requires an equivalency).

- Experience and skill incorporating elements of diversity, equity, and inclusion; working with racially minoritized students and understanding historical patterns of exclusion in higher education.
- Willingness to examine and improve instructional, relational, and classroom practices to engage racially minorized students.
- Experience working with students from diverse cultural, gender, age, socioeconomic, and ethnic backgrounds, including students with disabilities.
- Experience supporting underrepresented student populations and fostering cross-cultural communication with sensitivity.
- Ability to collaborate with faculty and staff to enhance instruction and student success; proficiency with computers and technologies used for high-quality instruction.
- Knowledge of current assessment methods and materials; understanding of community college mission and goals.
- Newly hired part-time faculty will be placed on step one of the Part-Time Faculty Salary Schedule.
- Salary placements are based on education and experience as outlined in the Part-Time Faculty Salary Classifications.
- Sick leave accrual is based on assignment hours.
