Overview

Philosophy Instructor (Part-Time Faculty Pool) at Madera Community College. This posting establishes an applicant pool for part-time faculty positions with ongoing review and potential interview opportunities as vacancies arise.

• Teach a part-time schedule of Philosophy courses as assigned.
• Use a variety of pedagogies and instructional delivery systems, including technology, for face-to-face, online, and/or hybrid formats.
• Communicate effectively with students, faculty and staff.
• Apply effective teaching methods appropriate to the subject matter and adhere to institutionally approved curriculum outlines of record.
• Evaluate student progress through tests, assignments, examinations, and other course objectives; provide course syllabi to students.
• Maintain classroom records in accordance with District Policy; submit all required grading and evaluation reports in a timely manner.
• Be prepared for teaching assignments in a variety of instructional settings and times, and fulfill all duties and responsibilities of instructors as required by Administrative Regulation 7122.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

All candidates must demonstrate responsiveness to and understanding of the diverse backgrounds of community college students and a commitment to equity-minded practice in the classroom.

• Master’s in Philosophy; or
• Bachelor’s in Philosophy and Master’s in Humanities or Religious Studies; or
• A valid California Community College Credential; or
• Equivalent education and/or experience (requires an equivalency).

• Experience and skill incorporating elements of diversity, equity, and inclusion; working with racially minoritized students and understanding historical patterns of exclusion in higher education.
• Willingness to examine and improve instructional, relational, and classroom practices to engage racially minorized students.
• Experience working with students from diverse cultural, gender, age, socioeconomic, and ethnic backgrounds, including students with disabilities.
• Experience supporting underrepresented student populations and fostering cross-cultural communication with sensitivity.
• Ability to collaborate with faculty and staff to enhance instruction and student success; proficiency with computers and technologies used for high-quality instruction.
• Knowledge of current assessment methods and materials; understanding of community college mission and goals.

• Newly hired part-time faculty will be placed on step one of the Part-Time Faculty Salary Schedule.
• Salary placements are based on education and experience as outlined in the Part-Time Faculty Salary Classifications.
• Sick leave accrual is based on assignment hours.
