Posting Details Announcement Information. Fresno City College seeks a part-time Counseling Instructor to join a diverse and equity-minded community. About the College and RoleThe ideal candidate will share Fresno City College’s commitment to educating its racially and socioeconomically diverse student population. The college enrolled over 34,000 students in with diverse racial/ethnic representation. Fresno City College is a Hispanic-Serving Institution and is committed to educational attainment and economic well-being in the surrounding community. The successful candidate will join a department dedicated to curriculum responsive to the students it serves.
Responsibilities- Teaching a part-time schedule of Counseling courses as assigned;
- Using a variety of pedagogies and instructional delivery systems, including technology for face-to-face, online, and/or hybrid formats;
- Communicating effectively with students, faculty and staff;
- Using effective teaching methods appropriate to the subject matter, adhering to institutionally approved curriculum outlines;
- Evaluating student progress through tests, assignments, and other assessments in line with course objectives;
- Providing course syllabi to students;
- Maintaining classroom records in accordance with District Policy;
- Turning in all required grading and evaluation reports in a timely manner;
- Participating in program review, student learning outcome development and assessment to improve student learning;
- Teaching assignments in a variety of instructional settings and times, including evenings and weekends, online or off-campus as needed;
- Fulfilling duties and responsibilities of instructors as required by Administrative Regulation 7122;
- Other duties as assigned.
All candidates must demonstrate responsiveness to and understanding of the diverse backgrounds of community college students to support equity-minded practice. Required qualifications include:
- Master’s in counseling, rehabilitation counseling, clinical psychology, counseling psychology, guidance counseling, educational counseling, social work, career development, marriage and family therapy or marriage, family and child counseling; or
- A valid California Community College Credential; or
- The equivalent education and/or experience (requires an equivalency).
Note:
A bachelor’s degree in one of the listed degrees and a license as a Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT) is an alternative qualification for this discipline. If the degrees on your transcript do not match exactly, you must petition for equivalency.
- Experience incorporating diversity, equity, and inclusion into responsibilities;
- Recent experience working with racially minoritized students and understanding historical patterns of exclusion in higher education;
- Willingness to examine and improve instructional practices to support racially minoritized students;
- Experience with students of diverse cultural, gender, age, socioeconomic, and ethnic backgrounds;
- Ability to work with computers and other technologies used in high-quality instruction and student support;
- Experience collaborating with faculty and staff to enhance instruction, curriculum, and student success;
- Knowledge of current assessment methods and materials; and
- Knowledge of the community college mission and goals.
- Newly hired part-time faculty will be placed on step one of the Part-Time Faculty Salary Schedule.
- Salary placement is based on education and experience according to the Part-Time Faculty Salary Classifications.
- Sick leave accrual is based on assignment hours.
