Geology Instructor (Part-Time Faculty Pool) – Clovis Community College

Overview

Clovis Community College seeks equity-minded leaders committed to student success and closing equity gaps. The successful candidate will collaborate with faculty, classified staff, administration, students and community partners; demonstrate commitment to serving a diverse student population; and participate in culturally relevant professional development.

Responsibilities
  • Teaching a part-time schedule of Geology courses as assigned
  • Using a variety of pedagogies and instructional delivery systems, including technology for face-to-face, online, and/or hybrid formats
  • Communicating effectively with students, faculty and staff
  • Using effective teaching methods appropriate to the subject matter and adhering to institutionally approved course outlines of record
  • Evaluating student progress through tests, exams, written assignments, oral responses, etc., in alignment with course objectives
  • Providing course syllabi to students
  • Maintaining classroom records in accordance with District Policy
  • Submitting all required student grading and evaluation reports in a timely manner
  • Teaching assignments in a variety of instructional settings and times, including classes as needed
  • Fulfilling duties and responsibilities of instructors as required by Administrative Regulation 7122
  • Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
  • Evidence of responsiveness to and understanding of diverse student backgrounds and the need for equity-minded practice in the classroom
  • Master’s in geology, geophysics, earth sciences, meteorology, oceanography or paleontology; or
  • Bachelor’s in geology and Master’s in geography, physics, or geochemistry; or
  • A valid California Community College Credential; or
  • Equivalent education and/or experience (requires an equivalency)

Note: If degrees do not match exactly, petition for equivalency.

Desirable Qualifications
  • Experience incorporating diversity, equity, and inclusion into responsibilities
  • Experience with racially minoritized students and understanding of historical exclusion in higher education
  • Willingness to examine and improve instructional practices to engage racially minoritized students
  • Experience working with students from diverse cultural, gender, age, socioeconomic and ethnic backgrounds
  • Experience supporting underrepresented student populations and foster youth
  • Experience facilitating multicultural and cross-cultural communication
  • Experience with under-prepared and high-need students in community college
  • Ability to collaborate with faculty and staff to enhance instruction, curriculum, and student success
  • Proficiency with computers and technologies used in instruction and student support
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students and staff
  • Knowledge of current assessment methods and community college mission and goals
Salary and Benefits
  • Newly hired part-time faculty placed on step one (1) of the Part-Time Faculty Salary Schedule
  • Salary placement based on education and experience per Part-Time Faculty Salary Classifications
  • Sick leave accrual based on assignment hours
Selection Procedure

The selection and hiring process for part-time faculty is governed by the hiring department. If there is interest, the department will contact you directly with questions or to extend an interview opportunity.

Please note: This position has no closing date; applications are accepted on an ongoing basis. You will be placed in a continuous pool. Start dates may vary. If you no longer wish to be considered, withdraw your application. Your application remains on file for 18 months. If not interviewed/selected within 18 months, a new application is required.
