Chicano-Latino Studies Instructor (Part-Time Faculty Pool)

Essential Functions

Responsibilities
  • Teach a part‑time schedule of Chicano‑Latino Studies courses as assigned.
  • Use varied pedagogies, integrating technology for face‑to‑face, online, and hybrid formats.
  • Communicate effectively with students, faculty and staff.
  • Adhere to institutionally approved curriculum and course outlines.
  • Assess student progress through tests, examinations, assignments and oral responses aligned with course objectives.
  • Provide course syllabi to students.
  • Maintain classroom records in accordance with District Policy.
  • Turn in all required grading and evaluation reports promptly.
  • Teach assignments in various instructional settings and times.
  • Fulfill all duties and responsibilities of instructors as required by Administrative Regulation 7122.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Evidence of responsiveness to and understanding of diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students within an equity‑minded classroom.
  • Master’s degree in Chicano Studies,
    or Master’s degree in Ethnic Studies,
    or a valid California Community College Credential,
    or equivalent education and experience (equivalency required).
    Note: If your transcript does not match exactly, petition for equivalency.
Desirable Qualifications
  • Experience integrating diversity, equity, and inclusion into all responsibilities.
  • Recent experience working with racially minoritized students and understanding historical exclusion patterns.
  • Willingness to examine and remediate instructional and classroom practices to better engage and support minoritized students.
  • Related work and professional experience.
  • Experience working with students of varied backgrounds, including disabilities.
  • Experience working with traditionally underrepresented populations such as foster youth.
  • Experience facilitating multicultural communication with sensitivity to diverse backgrounds.
  • Experience with under‑prepared and high‑need students.
  • Demonstrated collaborative ability with faculty and staff to enhance instruction, curriculum, and student success.
  • Technical proficiency with computers and instructional technologies.
  • Effective communication with students and staff.
  • Knowledge of current assessment methods and materials.
  • Knowledge of the community college mission and goals.
Salary and Benefits
  • Newly hired part‑time faculty will be placed on step one of the Part‑time Faculty Salary Schedule.
  • Salary classification placements will be based on education and experience as outlined in the Part‑time Faculty Salary Classifications.
  • Sick leave accrual is based on assignment hours.
