Position: 25-26 AY Temporary Faculty Pool (Lecturer) - History

Temporary Faculty Pool – Lecturer in History Department Overview

The Department of History invites qualified candidates to serve on the temporary faculty pool. Lecturers will teach undergraduate courses or other classes as identified by departmental need to support current students’ educational goals.

Position Summary

Lecturers are responsible for designing and delivering courses in the mode assigned (asynchronous, synchronous, in‑person, or hybrid). Duties include preparing lectures, holding office hours, assigning homework, creating quizzes, supervising class projects, and administering midterm and final examinations. All classes must be offered and meet as scheduled throughout the semester.

Instructor Responsibilities

Adhere to university and system‑wide policies as outlined in Academic Policy Manual 306, paragraph
2. Prepare, deliver, proctor, and grade courses in accordance with the established schedule. Demonstrate commitment to diversity, accessibility, and equal opportunity for all students.

Conditional Appointment

Appointments are contingent on budget and enrollment and are subject to the “Order of Work” provisions in the collective bargaining agreement. Eligibility to work in the United States is required (Fresno State does not sponsor Temporary Faculty positions).

Compensation

Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience within the CSU Salary Schedule (Class Code = 2358). The range for a lecturer with a master’s degree is $5,507‑$6,677 per month teaching full time (15 WTUs). Starting salaries are typically near the minimum of the range and will be adjusted based on assigned WTUs.

Anticipated Semester

The faculty pool remains open continuously and positions are filled as needed. Appointments are usually made just before the semester starts and may require short‑notice availability. The pool remains for two academic terms; reapplication is required for continued participation.

  • Fall 2025:
    August 18 – December 22, 2025
  • Spring 2026:
    January 15 – May 22, 2026
Required Qualifications
  • Education:

    Master’s degree in History or a closely related field (accredited institution).
  • Experience:

    Demonstrated commitment to excellence through merit, talent, diversity, accessibility, and equal opportunity.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Commitment to undergraduate teaching excellence, evidenced by prior teaching experiences and evaluations.
  • Successful undergraduate teaching experience.

Projected closing date: March 1 , 2026 for the 2025‑2026 academic year.
