Position SummaryThe department seeks qualified candidates to teach undergraduate Biology courses and laboratories, including:
- BIOL 131:
Parasitology - BIOL 132:
General Entomology - BIOL 157:
Immunology - BIOL 158:
Cancer Biology - BIOL 161:
Plant Physiology - Other high‑enrollment general‑education courses as needed
Temporary faculty are responsible for adherence to and implementation of university and system policies. Duties include preparation, delivery, proctoring, and grading of lectures, office hours, homework assignments, quizzes, class projects, and midterm and final exams. All courses must meet as scheduled throughout the semester in the mode assigned.
Conditional AppointmentAppointments are contingent upon budget and enrollment considerations and subject to the collective bargaining agreement. The order of assignment follows the “Order of Work” starting with tenure‑line faculty and ending with new lecturer appointees. Applicants must demonstrate eligibility to work in the United States.
CompensationSalary is commensurate with qualifications and experience within the CSU salary range. Temporary Faculty with a Master’s degree earn $5,507–$6,677 per month when teaching full time (15 WTUs). Monthly salary is adjusted based on the number of WTUs assigned per term.
Anticipated SemesterThe temporary faculty pool is continuously open and positions are filled as needed based on student enrollment and funding. The pool is part‑time and may be activated immediately before the start of an academic term.
Required QualificationsHigh‑Enrollment General‑Education Courses:
- A Master’s degree in Biology from an accredited institution.
- Successful undergraduate teaching experience.
- Commitment to excellence, diversity, and equal opportunity.
Upper‑Division Specialty and/or Graduate Level:
- A PhD in Biology or related field, or sufficient industry/clinical/private sector experience commensurate with departmental expectations.
- Successful undergraduate and/or graduate teaching experience.
- Expertise in a closely related discipline.
- Commitment to excellence, diversity, and equal opportunity.
