Position SummaryThe Department of Philosophy at California State University, Fresno invites applicants for a tenure‑track Assistant Professor position beginning Fall 2026. The new colleague will teach undergraduate courses in the Pre‑Law curriculum, advise students, supervise student research, conduct and publish research, develop curriculum, and facilitate community outreach. The successful candidate will work cooperatively with faculty and staff in the Philosophy Department, the College of Arts and Humanities, and campus wide departments associated with the Pre‑Law program.

Area of Competence (AOC):
Epistemology and/or Logic; the successful candidate will be able to teach epistemology, critical thinking, and logic.
- Teach four undergraduate courses per semester (12 WTUs) in the Pre‑Law curriculum and related philosophy courses.
- Advise and mentor students in Philosophy, Pre‑Law, Religious Studies, and law‑school preparation.
- Supervise student research and development of research projects.
- Conduct scholarly research in philosophy and law and publish in peer‑reviewed outlets.
- Develop and revise courses, manage course releases, and serve on department, college, and university committees.
- Engage in community outreach and participate in department programming and outreach initiatives.
- Earned doctorate (Ph.D.) in Philosophy or a closely related discipline from an accredited institution.
- For ABD candidates, doctorate must be completed by August 1, 2026.
- Demonstrated commitment to teaching in philosophy of law, critical thinking, logic, and epistemology.
- Demonstrated commitment to advising and mentoring pre‑law students.
- A record of distinguished scholarship in philosophy and law commensurate with experience.
- Excellence in teaching philosophy, broadly construed.
- Excellence in teaching students with diverse learning needs.
- Excellence in service, especially advising students.
- Potential for excellence in scholarship with a rich research agenda in philosophy and law.
- Interest in developing special curricular programs for advanced pre‑law students (e.g., Philosophy, Politics, and Economics).
