Philosophy and Law

Assistant Professor – Tenure Track – Fall 2026 (August 2026)

Responsibilities
  • Teach undergraduate courses in the Pre‑Law curriculum.
  • Advise students in their major and assist with law‑school preparation.
  • Supervise student research and mentor emerging scholars.
  • Conduct and publish research, particularly in philosophy and law.
  • Develop and revise curriculum and facilitate community outreach.
  • Engage in department, college, and university committees.
  • Participate actively in Philosophy Department activities and programming.
  • Teach approximately 12 Weighted Teaching Units (four courses) per semester, with potential time‑course reductions for scholarly activities.
Qualifications Required Education
  • Earned doctorate (Ph.D.) in Philosophy or a closely related discipline from an accredited (or equivalent) institution.
  • Applicants nearing completion (ABD) may be considered; doctorate must be complete by August 1, 2026.
Required Experience
  • Commitment to and preparedness for teaching philosophy of law, critical thinking, logic, and epistemology.
  • Commitment to and preparedness for advising and mentoring pre‑law students.
  • Record of distinguished scholarship in philosophy and law commensurate with years of experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Excellence in teaching philosophy, broadly construed.
  • Excellence in teaching students with various learning needs, especially the Fresno State student body.
  • Excellence in service, especially advising students.
  • Demonstrated potential for excellence in scholarship with a rich research agenda in philosophy and law, or related interests.
  • Interest in developing advanced pre‑law curricular programs such as Philosophy, Politics, and Economics.
