The College Nurse will provide professional nursing assessment and services on the Fresno City College campus and/or off-site community campus locations, in alignment with standards set by the California Nurse Practice Act and Title V. Responsibilities- Assessing students for self-care or referral to appropriate medical providers;
- Collaborating and responding regarding crisis team management and emergency problems and providing emergency and nursing care as needed;
- Maintaining confidential student and staff medical records;
- Establishing and maintaining professional working relationships with the medical community;
- Providing appropriate recommendations regarding health, wellness, public health and safety concerns for the campus community;
- Presenting current and accurate health educational and wellness resources for students;
- Participating in professional staff development activities for students, staff, and community;
- Participating in extracurricular and community activities;
- Supporting and working closely with the College Trainer in sports medicine;
- Serving on and attending department, college, and district committees as needed; and
- Other duties as assigned.
All candidates must have evidence of responsiveness to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students as these factors relate to equity-minded practice.
- Master’s in nursing and a California Public Health Nurse certificate; OR
- Bachelor’s in nursing and a California Public Health Nurse certificate and a master’s in health education, sociology, psychology, counseling, health care administration, public health or community health.
Licenses, Certificates and Other Requirements
Current license as a Registered Nurse issued by the State of California Board of Registered Nursing.
- Experience and skill incorporating elements of diversity, equity, and inclusion into all areas of responsibility;
- Recent experience working with racially minoritized students and understanding of how historical patterns of exclusion shape participation and outcomes;
- Willingness to examine and remediate practices to support racially minoritized students;
- Related work and professional experience;
- Experience working with students of various cultural, gender, age, socioeconomic, and ethnic backgrounds, including students with disabilities;
- Demonstrated ability to work with computers and technologies used in instruction and student support;
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with students and staff;
- CPR Instructor’s Certificate;
- Audiometric Certificate;
- General nursing experience;
- Public health, school nurse/college nurse, or occupational health nurse experience;
- Ability to work in an independent health setting with a comprehensive team;
- Ability to maintain confidential records;
- Computer skills in health information maintenance and data collection;
