Position: Special Education Teacher (Resource
3)
Location: Johnson Crossing Academic Center (the FPS 5/6 Building)
Employment: Full-Time Contract Begins August 2026
Qualifications- Certification/Licensure: Nebraska Teaching Certificate with appropriate endorsement in Special Education
- Education Level: Bachelor s Degree or Master s Degree in Education or Special Education
Base Salary is per the 2026-27 Salary Schedule plus an Annual Flat Salary Stipend. Salary and stipend are yet to be negotiated. 2025-26 BA, Step 1 Salary was $42,555 and the Flat Salary Stipend was $8,750.00.
FPS values professional growth and supports a New Teacher Mentorship Program. New Teachers are offered a one-time salary advance opportunity to increase their August paycheck.
Paid Leave: 4 Personal Days; 9 Sick Days; 5 Bereavement Days;
Civic Leave; and Professional Leave as determined by administrators. Certified staff may join a Sick Leave Bank annually. Teachers who are parents/guardians of an FPS student may use up to 4 sick days per year to attend FPS-sponsored activities for their child.
Retirement: FPS is a member of the Nebraska Public Employee Retirement System and contributes to the defined plan per Nebraska statute.

Job Title: Special Education Teacher - Resource 3
Requirements- Experience Desired: Training and teaching experience in areas of regular and special education with emphasis on Intellectual Disabilities, Moderate-Severe/Profound, Multiple Disabilities, Autism, Behavior Disorders
- Other Requirements: Knowledge of Rule 51 guidelines for IEP development and provision of special education services, instructional techniques and materials, methods for individualizing instruction, developmentally appropriate curriculum; knowledge in behavior modification and management
Reports To: Director of Special Education
Essential Functions- Regular, dependable in-person attendance; perform duties and apply knowledge, skills, and abilities; meet physical requirements as per job description
- Collaborate and plan with other professionals to provide programming for students with special needs; develop and implement pre-vocational skills activities
- Meets and instructs assigned students at the locations and times designated
- Develops and maintains a classroom environment conducive to effective learning
- Develops and manages individual education plans (IEPs) with the IEP team
- Plans and implements an alternative curriculum for students with moderate-severe/profound disabilities
- Assists in verifying disabilities and consults with district specialists as required
- Collaborates with staff to plan instructional goals, objectives, and methods; modify programs as needed
- Assists in selecting books, equipment, assistive devices, and other instructional materials
- Plans and supervises assignments for teacher assistants
- Supports classroom management and student conduct policies
- Supervises drills and emergency preparedness; adheres to district policies and administration expectations
- Addresses students’ personal hygiene needs as needed
- Assesses student progress using diverse methods and provides progress reports
- Maintains records of attendance, absences, tardies, and other required information
- Develops, writes, and implements behavior support plans
- Prepares records for students receiving services through the IEP process
- Communicates with students, parents, and professionals regarding educational programs and IEP/MDT processes
- Attends staff meetings and participates in professional development
- Completes special projects and other duties as assigned
