Job Summary

The BIOS/UEFI Firmware Engineer is responsible for the architecture, design, development, and debugging of UEFI and BIOS firmware for computer systems. This highly technical role ensures secure, efficient, and reliable initialization of hardware and system boot functionality. The engineer provides hands‑on expertise while also offering leadership across projects and supporting cross‑functional initiatives within Engineering Services.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, and maintain UEFI/BIOS firmware using C and C++.
  • Contribute to all phases of the UEFI boot process: SEC, PEI, and DXE.
  • Lead hardware bring‑up activities and debug complex hardware–firmware interactions.
  • Ensure proper initialization of hardware components: DDR, PCIe, SATA, USB, etc.
  • Optimize boot performance and implement security features such as Secure Boot, Intel Boot Guard, and TPM.
  • Collaborate with hardware teams to interpret schematics and configure hardware accurately.
  • Utilize debugging tools (JTAG, logic analyzers, in‑circuit emulators).
  • Conduct code reviews, produce documentation, and mentor junior engineers. Work cross‑functionally with OS, security, and hardware teams to ensure system reliability.
Required Skills & Abilities
  • Proficiency in C/C++ for embedded systems.
  • Deep understanding of UEFI architecture (EDK2), x86 architecture, and system boot processes.
  • Strong knowledge of interfaces: PCIe, SPI, I2C, USB.
  • Excellent analytical, debugging, and problem‑solving abilities.
  • Experience with firmware security standards (NIST SP 800‑193, Secure Boot).
  • Ability to debug low‑level boot issues.
  • Understanding of SMM, ACPI, Intel FSP/IFWI.
  • Leadership experience and strong communication skills.
  • Experience with Python or similar scripting languages.
Education & Experience
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer or Electrical Engineering.
  • 2+ years of BIOS/UEFI firmware development with leadership responsibilities.
Physical Requirements
  • Extended periods of sitting and computer use. Ability to navigate between departments as needed.
