Job Overview
Stationary Engineer – Operations and Support Services (Job Code: 630/633). Salary: $77.60 per hour. Reporting to Chief of Facilities Services or designated manager.
Position SummaryEngineers the continuous operation of mechanical, HVAC, medical gas, fire alarm, emergency generator, nurse call, and related plant systems. Maintains a watch on all equipment, prevents downtime, and performs scheduled preventive maintenance.
Essential Responsibilities- Conduct preventive maintenance on boilers, HVAC controls, emergency generators, and medical gas systems.
- Monitor and log system performance, perform troubleshooting, and implement corrective actions.
- Perform routine inspections, record preventive maintenance records, and assure safety compliance.
- Respond promptly to work orders, patient service requests, and emergencies.
- Maintain clean, orderly equipment spaces and adhere to hospital policies and procedures.
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; completion of Four Year Stationary Engineers Apprenticeship Program or equivalent.
- Licensure / Certification: Must possess current EPA CFC Certification, Universal Technician.
- Experience: Minimum two years of journeyman‑level experience in operation, maintenance, and repair of boiler, heating, ventilating, and air conditioning equipment with automatic controls.
- Skills: Ability to read and interpret blueprints, manuals, diagrams, and operating procedures; proficient with Building Automation System, MS Word, and Excel.
- Knowledge: Thorough knowledge of high/low‑pressure boilers, pneumatic, lighting, HVAC, and mechanical equipment; electrical service and distribution systems; applicable codes (California Title 8, Title 22, Title 24, NFPA Life Safety Code, Uniform Building and Mechanical Code, National Electrical Code).
Average 0–8 hours per workday. Standing, walking, bending, kneeling, squatting, and weight lifting up to 51+ lbs. Routine use of hands, feet, and dexterity. Requires vision and hearing proficiency for blueprints, gauges, and alarms.
Hazard OverviewExposure to blood/body fluids, toxic/caustic chemicals, electrical shock risk, wet/humid conditions, mechanical parts, extreme heat/cold, fumes, radiation, noise, confined spaces, and general patient safety hazards. Follow institutional safety protocols, proper PPE, and emergency response procedures.
