San Francisco Bay University (SFBU) seeks a motivated, tech-savvy, and dependable student to serve as a Student Assistant in the Makerspace. This role focuses on maintaining and supporting virtual reality (VR) headsets and other makerspace technologies, ensuring all equipment is updated, functional, and ready for student use.
The Student Assistant will gain hands-on experience in emerging technologies, immersive learning tools, and technical troubleshooting while supporting innovation and experiential learning across campus. This is a part-time, on-campus position located in Fremont, CA.
ResponsibilitiesPrepare, maintain, and manage VR headsets and related equipment for student and faculty use.
Perform regular software updates, firmware upgrades, and system checks on VR devices and other makerspace tools.
Troubleshoot hardware and software issues across makerspace technologies.
Ensure all equipment is charged, sanitized, organized, and ready for scheduled use.
Assist students and faculty in operating VR headsets and other makerspace tools.
Provide basic training and guidance on safe and effective equipment usage.
Maintain inventory of equipment and report maintenance needs.
Support makerspace workshops, demonstrations, and events as needed by doing demos, marketing
3D printer and it's upkeep and all associated tasks
Any other equipment that will be added to the Maker space
Follow safety protocols and ensure proper use of equipment.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
QualificationsCurrently enrolled SFBU undergraduate or graduate student in good standing.
Interest in VR, immersive technologies, gaming, AI, digital fabrication, or emerging tech.
Basic technical troubleshooting skills (hardware and software).
Strong organizational and time-management skills.
Ability to work independently and assist others patiently and professionally.
Knowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesFamiliarity with VR platforms (e.g., Meta Quest, HTC Vive, etc.) preferred.
Ability to perform software updates and manage device settings.
Strong communication skills when assisting students and faculty.
Attention to detail in maintaining equipment readiness and safety.

Hands-on experience with cutting-edge VR and makerspace technologies.

Work Environment & Physical DemandsDuties are typically performed in an office and student lounge setting.
Ability to lift up to 20 lbs; occasional bending, sitting, or standing for extended periods.
Salary: $18.00 - $20.00 per hour
