Controls Engineer, Powertrain; Night Shift

What to Expect

Tesla is seeking a night shift Controls Engineer for the Powertrain Maintenance Engineering team to be part of a world‑class team of engineers that are responsible for maintaining and sustaining the automated equipment across the Powertrain production lines. This includes providing support activities such as troubleshooting, equipment recoveries, debugging and safety, quality and production availability improvements. Controls Engineers own maintaining KPI's of safety, availability, OEE and of the manufacturing equipment by analyzing data to drive improvements.

The key objective of the Powertrain Maintenance Engineering team is to maintain, sustain and improve the manufacturing process and help Tesla achieve its ambitious manufacturing goals. All these automated manufacturing processes are located at our Tesla facilities located in Fremont, CA.

• Maintain Key Performance Indicators of safety, equipment availability, spares cost and OEE
• Analyze data to drive equipment improvements to reduce downtime while maintaining quality of the product
• Respond to daily escalations of equipment downtime and perform effective troubleshooting to minimize production impact
• Submit Permanent Corrective Actions (PCA) to improve equipment efficiencies
• Perform RCCA (Root Cause and Corrective Actions) using 4D methodologies to resolve and prevent equipment failures
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to ensure equipment is properly validated before returning to production
• Improve EMS (Equipment Maintenance Procedures) to ensure proper documentation is available

• Degree in Electrical, Controls, or Mechatronic Engineering, or equivalent experience
• Experience programing, debugging and troubleshooting PLC systems (Beckhoff, Allen Bradley, Siemens)
• Experience programming, debugging and troubleshooting Cartesian, SCARA and Articulated robots is highly desired (Fanuc, Kuka)
• Experience with Vision systems (Cognex, Keyence, Fanuc)
• Experience creating technical specifications for automated manufacturing equipment is highly desired
• Knowledge of production quality metrics is a plus
• Proficiency with 3D CAD packages such as with Solid Works and CATIA is a plus
• 3+ years of experience as a hands‑on Controls Engineer or Applications Engineer working on automation and/or electromechanical systems

Expected Compensation

$84,000 - $180,000 / annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits. Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job‑related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered.
