Electronics Engineer, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineer, Mechanical Engineer
Our client is a world leader in the design and manufacture of customized photonics components and modules for industrial, defense, and medical OEMs. At the company’s Northern CA facility, we are looking for a motivated individual to work in a team of design engineers interacting closely with production, sales, and process engineering to create, test, and refine acousto‑optic (AO) and electro‑optic (EO) components, assemblies, and products through the entire development cycle from concept to release‑to‑manufacturing.
The opportunity will initially focus on prototype build and characterization and will evolve into customer‑based product design depending on the candidate’s experience and aptitude.
Responsibilities
- Create, test, and refine AO and EO components, assemblies, and products through the entire development cycle from concept to manufacturing release.
- Interact with production, sales, and process engineering to incorporate customer requirements into product design.
- Build prototypes and conduct detailed characterization and performance testing.
- Iterate on design based on test results and customer feedback.
Qualifications
- Bachelors or Masters in Science or Engineering.
- Professional experience of 5-10 years in the laser, photonics, or optics industry.
- Hands‑on experimental experience in a laser or photonics laboratory.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Strong analytical thinking.
Required and Useful Skills
- Experience using or developing acousto‑optic devices or systems (modulators, beam deflectors, switches, filters) – a strong plus.
- Hands‑on experience with opto‑mechanical assemblies.
- Theoretical understanding of optical beam characteristics including diffraction.
- Knowledge of Gaussian beam and/or ray‑trace modelling – a plus.
- RF electronics background or experience – a plus (impedance transformation circuits).
- MATLAB or equivalent software experience – a plus.
- Thermal modelling experience – a plus.
- UV and/or MIR optical experience – a plus.
