What to Expect
The Equipment Engineer position, reporting to Equipment Engineering Manager, is located at our Fremont Factory. The primary responsibility is to address all industrial manufacturing equipment issues and improvements within Body in White. The successful candidate will have extensive theoretical and hands‑on experience with automated body shop equipment, as well as experience managing new product introductions, equipment projects (new installations), and process optimization, upgrades, and modifications.
They must collaborate with cross‑functional teams and department leaders to resolve concerns affecting part quality, production efficiency, work‑cell ergonomics, and maintenance. Exceptional interpersonal, organizational, and management skills are required, demonstrating the ability to be an innovator and change agent. Hands‑on shop floor presence when needed is also expected.
- Design, select, manage, program, and commission automation equipment.
- Implement and manage continuous process optimization, adding advanced and conventional technologies to improve quality, productivity, and reduce waste.
- Take overall responsibility for all equipment‑related activities in the shop, leading and assisting production, and supporting the maintenance team with troubleshooting breakdowns and chronic failures.
- Develop and maintain proper documentation of all industrial manufacturing equipment and associated procedures, updating as required by modifications.
- Identify weak areas of the production system using root‑cause analysis and first‑principles thinking, implementing effective countermeasures.
- Implement and maintain quality control methods, including poke‑yokes, data‑tracking systems, part recognition, and problem reporting.
- Create and improve equipment standards, implementing those standards into manufacturing equipment, including periodic checks and qualification inspections; program using ladder logic, Python, Pascal, and proprietary industrial robot languages (KAREL, KUKA KRL, ABB RAPID).
- Degree in Electrical, Mechatronics, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent experience.
- Knowledge of industrial‑level electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and mechanical systems and safeties.
- Experience with programming, repairing, and maintaining industrial robotics, especially FANUC, Motoman, KUKA, and ABB.
- Ability to read mechanical, pneumatic, and electrical diagrams and prints to diagnose issues and create improvements.
- Proven project experience, strong problem‑solving skills, and analytical thinking.
- Interpersonal skills and ability to resolve conflict within a large group; strong verbal and written communication; willingness to work flexible hours and schedules.

$80,000 - $144,000 per year + cash and stock awards + benefits.
Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including location, job‑related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package may also include other elements dependent on the position offered.
