Overview
Glazing Mechanical Design Engineer, Closures Engineering — within the Closures Engineering team at Tesla, Inc. You will design and engineer exterior glass systems for Tesla vehicles, collaborating with designers and engineers across the product design cycle from initial sketches to validation and product launch. Your work will contribute to the integration of form, function, and quality in Tesla’s vehicle design.
What You'll Do- Serve as a key member of the Vehicle Engineering team to drive automotive glazing and closure system development for Tesla’s vehicle product line
- Conceptualize, design, engineer, and launch components for glazing, seals, and trim products
- Collaborate with Autopilot, Thermal, Antenna, Mechanisms, Interiors, and Sealing teams to integrate and package components within each closure
- Achieve innovation-driven closure system targets for appearance, function, quality, cost, and weight
- Establish system-level architecture and functionality through market research, design feasibility, and prototyping
- Participate in iterative processes with Tesla Design and Styling Studio to balance form, function, and quality
- Optimize glazing designs, including heater grids, coatings, and interlayers, to enhance system performance and minimize optical defects
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field, or equivalent experience showing excellence
- Passion for cutting-edge product design and innovation
- Minimum of two years of industry experience in consumer product design or a related field
- Proficiency in 3D modeling using CATIA V5/V6 or similar software
- Knowledge of design for manufacturing principles across various commodities
- Strong understanding of engineering principles and mechanics of materials with creative problem-solving skills
- Experience with advanced manufacturing technologies, particularly related to glazing or ceramics, preferred

$92,720 - $206,520 annually, plus cash and stock awards and benefits. Pay offered may vary by location, knowledge, skills, and experience. Details of participation in these plans will be provided if an offer is made.
