Communication Studies Instructor (Part-Time Faculty Pool)
Ohlone College seeks a part‑time faculty member for temporary teaching assignments in communication studies.
Position OverviewOhlone College is a community college located in Fremont and Newark, CA, offering a broad range of programs. The Communication Studies Instructor will teach post‑secondary level courses in the Language, Communication, and Deaf Studies Division. Assignments may be day, evening, or weekend courses in‑person, online, or hybrid. The position is part‑time, temporary.
Responsibilities- Teach communication studies courses according to course outlines.
- Evaluate student work using clear criteria and provide timely feedback.
- Maintain and submit accurate records (grades, syllabi, attendance) by published deadlines.
- Create an equity‑based, welcoming classroom environment.
- Perform duties described in Board policy, the United Faculty of Ohlone contact, the Faculty Handbook, and as assigned at the Fremont Campus, Newark Center, or eCampus.
- Master’s degree in speech, speech broadcasting, telecommunications, rhetoric, communication studies, or related field; or Bachelor’s degree in the above and a Master’s in drama/theater arts, mass communication, or English.
- Commitment to an equity‑based, anti‑racist institution and ability to work effectively in multicultural environments.
- Evidence of responsiveness to diverse student populations, including non‑traditional and re‑entry students.
- Community college teaching experience.
- Innovative teaching methods that promote student engagement.
- Experience creating equitable syllabi and inclusive pedagogical practices.
- Experience addressing equity issues with minoritized students.
- Computer technology proficiency, including course management systems.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Team‑work ability.
- Resume/CV.
- A cover letter addressing the desirable qualifications and commitment to diversity.
- Three professional references.
- Unofficial copies of all college transcripts (official sealed transcripts required upon hire).
If you do not meet minimum qualifications, submit a completed equivalency form and supporting documents. Foreign transcripts require course‑by‑course analysis and equivalency statement from a certified evaluation service.
