Project Accountant

Location: Middlesex County, New Jersey (On-site, limited NYC travel)

Compensation: $80,000–$120,000

A well-established construction subcontractor headquartered in New Jersey is looking to add a Project Accountant to support an expanding pipeline of active projects across NJ and NYC. The company delivers complex, multi-phase projects and works closely with general contractors and ownership teams from preconstruction through close-out.

This is a project-focused accounting role, embedded within operations, with direct impact on billing accuracy, cash flow, and overall financial performance at the job level.

This role centers on the financial oversight of active construction projects rather than traditional GL accounting. Core duties include:

• Preparing monthly requisitions and payment applications
• Maintaining change order logs and billing documentation
• Partnering with Project Managers and external stakeholders to resolve billing and collections issues
• Monitoring job costs and analyzing project profitability
• Producing cash flow projections and forecasting reports for leadership
• Ensuring billing files remain organized, compliant, and audit-ready
• Preparing lien waivers, tax documentation, and compliance reporting
• Supporting certified payroll and related reporting requirements

• 5+ years of construction accounting experience
• Strong experience with project billings, requisitions, and job cost analysis
• Prior Accounts Payable experience within a construction environment
• Familiarity with construction ERP systems strongly preferred
• Advanced Excel skills

• Able to manage multiple projects independently
• Base salary: $80,000–$120,000 (dependent on experience)
