The University of New Brunswick (UNB) is seeking a forward‑thinking, detail‑oriented leader to serve as its next Director of Finance and Administration, Capital Planning and Operations (CPO). This is a unique opportunity to modernize systems, strengthen financial and administrative functions, and play a pivotal role in shaping the future of capital planning and operations at one of Canada’s most historic universities.
As Director, you’ll lead a dedicated team of four within the areas of payroll processing, accounts payable, procurement, invoicing, and ITS, oversee critical financial and administrative processes, and support transformational change within a complex and evolving environment.
What You’ll DoReporting to the Assistant Comptroller, with daily collaboration alongside the AVP of Capital Planning and Operations, you’ll provide financial oversight, operational leadership, and systems expertise.
Your Impact Will Include- Leading financial operations and administration across the CPO portfolio.
- Overseeing the processing of key financial transactions, ensuring accuracy and completeness of accounting records and transactions; researching and resolving various issues and discrepancies; performing reconciliations, audits, and adjustments as needed; and coordinating with external auditors, as required.
- Designing, implementing, and monitoring internal control systems and processes to mitigate risk and ensure compliance with regulatory and organizational standards and policies.
- Coordinating the continued development and efficient management of the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS), working in close collaboration with several university departments including Information Technology Services.
- Driving data integrity‑ensuring accuracy, completeness, and reliability for decision‑making.
- Guiding the transition from manual processes to integrated ERP solutions and delivering financial analysis and data storytelling to support university and board‑level decisions.
- Mentoring and supporting a small but dedicated team, fostering a culture of continuous learning and process improvement.
- Collaborating on indirect tax planning opportunities and compliance issues.
You’re a collaborative, curious leader with a passion for using data to solve problems, tell stories, and improve systems. You thrive in complex environments, bring clarity to financial and operational challenges, and lead with both precision and empathy.
You’ll Thrive In This Role If You Have- A Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. You have a CPA designation or are near completion.
- Minimum of 4 years of progressive financial experience, with a strong preference for experience gained in an accountancy firm or similar high‑performance setting.
- Strong data analytics and financial systems expertise including advanced Excel (dynamic modeling, pivot tables, VLOOKUPs) and SQL or similar querying skills.
- Proven experience with ERP systems (Colleague preferred) and CMMS platforms.
- A solid foundation in financial controls, reporting, and audit principles.
- The ability to communicate complex financial concepts in clear, compelling ways.
