Environmental Technologist Co-op/Summer Student Dexter Construction
The Municipal Group of Companies is a large, diversified organization engaged in all major aspects of the heavy civil construction, mining and environmental services within the Atlantic Provinces. We are currently seeking an Environmental Technologist Co-op Student to join our team from May – December 2026. This position will be 8:30am – 5pm Monday – Friday out of Saint John, NB and surrounding areas.
PrimaryDuties and Responsibilities
- Conduct Environmental inspections and monitoring at MGC facilities for compliance with regulatory requirements
- Collect soil, surface and groundwater samples as per industry and MGOC protocols
- Increase effectiveness of MGC’s Environmental Best Practices and awareness of MGCs Environmental Management Plan
- Collaborate with MGC staff on various environmental issues
Prepare and review comprehensive Environmental reports and summarize the information for Senior Management - Emergency response related to Environmental Incidents
- Review and provide input on activities in the environment (wetland alteration planning, remediation, culvert installation, etc.)
- Assist with surface water management, water monitoring and reporting
- Any other duties as required.
- Working towards a degree or diploma from a recognized university or college in a natural or physical science or engineering with specialization in erosion and sedimentation controls, fisheries biology, aquatic biology, ecology and/or another related discipline.
- Demonstrate the ability to work within a multidisciplinary team environment.
- Experience with sedimentation and erosion control techniques would be an asset;
- Ability to work as part of an environmental team;
- Strong time and priority management skills
- Strong analytical and problem solving skills;
- Professional attitude, punctual, assertive and personable;
- High level of sound and independent judgment and reasoning;
- Ability to respond in pressure situations with a calm demeanor and high sense of urgency.
- Experience preparing reports and detailed inspection forms;
- Knowledge of various computer tracking systems such as Share Point
- A valid Class 5 Driver’s License.
- Flexibility to travel across the Maritime Provinces when required.
