Responsibilities
- Contribute to CTV News by gathering video, writing news stories, creating and performing on‑camera multi‑platform content for television, radio and digital
- Identify, research, select and write original multi‑platform stories, headlines and captions
- Conduct, record and edit interviews for multi‑platform news coverage
- Check facts, typos and technical errors prior to posting all information
- Operate ENG equipment for news gathering & editing news material
- Set up and operate equipment (e.g., Dejero boxes, Dejero App, Atlas kits)
- High‑quality journalism adhering to all legal, ethical and regulatory standards
- Meet multiple filing deadlines to ensure immediate and up‑to‑date news coverage online and on‑air
- Track and book follow‑up news coverage
- Work weekday, weekend, and evening shifts
- Provide backfill for other news positions as required
- Travel is required
- A forward‑looking approach toward the news industry and modern news gathering techniques
- Exceptional on‑air delivery and outstanding storytelling skills
- A solid understanding of how Canadians consume news today on multiple platforms
- Minimum 5 years working in a news operation including a professional journalistic environment
- Demonstrated proficiency in non‑linear editing (packages, VOs, intros, bumpers and special effects)
- Proficiency in the operation of ENG gear including troubleshooting
- Proficiency in writing voice‑overs, short packages, package intros, and promotional items to CTV News standards
- Understanding of the growing social media landscape as a communication and engagement tool within CTV News guidelines
- Experience exercising editorial judgment in a deadline‑driven news environment
- Post‑secondary education in journalism or broadcasting preferred
- In‑depth knowledge of the Canadian news landscape and evidence of being a “consumer of news”
- Ability to develop and maintain news contacts to allow effective coverage on deadline and prioritize and meet deadlines of simultaneous duties
- Ability to work in a team and be self‑motivated
- High degree of adaptability and commitment to learning in a fast‑paced environment
- Capability of lifting & carrying camera equipment (15‑20 pounds)
- Valid driver’s license and clean driver’s abstract required
