Utility/Prep Cook Associates participate in providing a total quality dining service program. This includes thorough cleaning of dishware, flatware, pots, pans, cooking utensils, equipment, and facilities to meet sanitation standards. Utility Associates may also perform a variety of food preparation duties such as preparing cold foods and shellfish, slicing meat, prepping salads, desserts, hot food prep and brewing coffee or tea.
EssentialJob Functions
- General duties include cleaning, mopping, sweeping, garbage removal, and dusting kitchen and dining room, and food prep as assigned.
- Wash and ensure dishes, pots and pans, and utensils are at the highest standards of cleanliness.
- Clean dishwasher machine inside and out after each shift.
- Maintain a neat appearance of working areas and cleaning equipment storage areas.
- Clean floor drains as scheduled and as needed.
- Report to the Cook or Executive Chef any equipment and supplies that are needed.
- Ensure the proper use of equipment and supplies, and uphold cleaning and safety standards.
- Must be in company uniform and resident ready at all times.
- Perform other related essential duties as assigned.
Skills And Abilities
- Able to communicate effectively with all levels of management, team members, residents, family members, vendors, referral sources and outside contacts.
- Able to make independent decisions.
- Must be able to communicate in a warm, friendly and caring manner.
- Must be able to follow recipes and menus.
- Must be able to follow direction and prepare meals when the head cook is absent.
- Must fully understand the importance of reliability and timeliness.
- Must possess a passion to work with and around senior citizens.
- High School Graduate or equivalent.
- Experience in professional food service is preferred.
- Able to stand or walk 75% of the day.
- Able to concentrate with frequent interruptions.
- Able to work under stress and in emergency situations.
- Able to work under conditions that require sitting, standing, walking, reaching, pulling, pushing, and grasping.
- Able to talk and hear effectively in order to convey instructions and information to residents and team members.
- Occasionally lift/carry up to 50 pounds.
- Work in all areas of the community.
- Subject to reactions from dust, disinfectants and cleaning chemicals and may be exposed to infectious waste, diseases and other conditions.
- Use personal protective equipment and supplies when needed to prevent burns, falls, and infection.
- Personal protective equipment includes infection control kit, rubber gloves and non-slip shoes.
- This position is exposed to very hot water, hot oven temperatures, sharp knives and utensils, broken glass, slippery wet floors and other ordinary kitchen environmental risks. Protective equipment requires apron, hair net, chef’s hat and coat, rubber gloves, hot pads, non-slip shoes, short sleeves.
