Lead Mechanic: Wastewater Treatment Plant

Job Summary

Join our team as a skilled Wastewater Treatment Plant Lead Mechanic. This position involves maintaining and repairing specialized plant machinery at our wastewater treatment facility, supporting Licensed Operators, and ensuring smooth plant operations.

• Perform skilled mechanical work in the repair and maintenance of plant machinery
• Check, maintain, repair, and replace motors, pumps, line shafts, and other equipment
• Maintain preventative maintenance logs and records
• Prioritize and complete work orders and preventative maintenance tasks
• Communicate effectively with the Superintendent, Chief Operator, and Operators
• Train new maintenance hires as needed
• Use hand, bench, and machine tools for repair and maintenance tasks
• Operate equipment such as drill presses, grinders, and perform welding tasks
• Assist in drawing and pumping sludge, turning valves, and recirculating sludge
• Design and fabricate parts as required
• Research, order, and obtain necessary tools, equipment, and parts
• Maintain plant structures and grounds

• High school diploma or equivalent with vocational/technical training in plumbing, mechanical, and electrical repair
• Four (4) or more years of experience in mechanical maintenance, including sewage treatment plant maintenance
• Valid Commonwealth of Virginia driver's license

• Proficient in equipment repair and maintenance
• Understanding of relevant laws, ordinances, and safety precautions
• Ability to work collaboratively and maintain effective relationships
• Capable of implementing programs and reporting progress
• Problem-solving skills in a responsive environment
• Ability to perform advanced technical or scientific tasks
• Strong analytical and mathematical skills
• Ability to follow instructions and exercise independent judgment
• Skilled in equipment overhaul and restoration

• Ability to exert strong physical effort for heavy work
• Capable of lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling up to 100 pounds
• Ability to perform tasks involving balancing, climbing, crawling, and other physical activities
