Controls Engineer – Fredericksburg, VA
Wunderlich‑Malec Engineering (WM) is a 100% employee‑owned ESOP and one of the largest engineering companies in the United States. This controls engineer position is responsible for control system design, panel design, PLC programming, instrumentation, checkout support, and start‑up assistance.
Responsibilities- Design, develop, and implement control system logic and hardware to meet process system requirements.
- Develop schematics detailing control system configuration and wiring, and design equipment panel layouts in AutoCAD.
- Write Sequence of Operation documents detailing control strategies and lead design reviews with customers.
- Perform system checkout and startup of the integrated control system at customer sites.
- Develop final record system documentation and provide system training to customers.
- Act as technical lead on projects and guide lower‑level engineers and technicians.
- Act as Project Manager on smaller projects ($50K–$250K), including implementation planning, scope definition, schedule development, progress evaluation, purchasing, subcontractor management, cost development, and change order proposal.
Education
BS in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering is preferred.
Experience
- In‑depth understanding of control systems, components, logic programming, instrumentation, and PLC systems (Allen Bradley, Schneider Modicon, Siemens, GE‑IP); experience with AutoCAD is desired.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate with team members, subcontractors, and clients.
- Ability to travel up to 50%.
Seeing, color perception, hearing, clear speech, dexterity in hands, driving, lifting, climbing, and ability to mount and dismount equipment, pushing, and pulling.
