Job DescriptionGermanna Community College is a two-year public institution of higher education in the Virginia Community College System. As a comprehensive community college, Germanna provides quality, accessible, and affordable educational opportunities for the residents of the City of Fredericksburg and the counties of Caroline, Culpeper, King George, Madison, Orange, Spotsylvania and Stafford.
Germanna is currently looking for someone to support the college’s strategic plan goal to rectify achievement gaps among student populations by providing academic and personal support that promotes success and a sense of belonging. The Single Stop platform was implemented as a part of the Germanna Cares Program, dedicated to the reduction and elimination of life basic needs barriers which often derail students from persisting and completing educational goals.
The Germanna Cares Program and Single Stop support the VCCS strategic goal to “provide all students with a culture of care that responds to the needs of our student population and supports and inspires their educational and career success.”
The position will support Single Stop and SNAP 50/50 initiatives by assisting with the development and implementation of a Marketing and Communication Plan, collaborating with other college departments to identify and connect with students, and conduct case management follow-up with Single Stop participants. The Support Specialist will conduct Single Stop intake appointments, offering times during weekends/evenings to extend access to support.
Minimum Qualifications- Ability to collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to identify and connect students to resources
- Ability to provide accurate information to students regarding campus and community resources and services
- Ability to plan, implement, and maintain procedures and processes that support students with basic life needs challenges
- Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with professionalism and discretion
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to deliver presentations and communicate effectively with individuals and groups
- Ability to learn and apply Germanna Community College policies and procedures
- Proficiency in office productivity software, including Microsoft Office and Google Workspace
- Strong multitasking, time management, and organizational skills
- Experience with social services resources, benefits eligibility criteria preferred
- Bilingual fluency in English/Spanish preferred
