Summary

The incumbent physician is expected to provide comprehensive patient care in the form of consultative outpatient Endocrine/Diabetic patient care at the Fredericksburg Health Care Center (FxHCC). This is an open continuous announcement. Applications will be accepted on an ongoing basis and qualified candidates will be considered. This announcement may be closed at any time after the initial open period once all vacancies have been filled.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position you must meet the basic requirements as well as any additional requirements (if applicable) listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending the completion of training or license requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met.

  • United States Citizenship:
    Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy
  • Education:

    Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine
  • The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed
  • Licensure and Registration:
    Current - full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia
  • Residency Training:
    Physicians must have completed residency training approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification
  • Approved residencies are: (1) ACGME, (2) AOA, or (3) other residencies with a minimum of five years of verified practice in the United States, as deemed appropriate by the local Medical Staff Executive Committee
  • English Language Proficiency:
    Proficiency in spoken and written English
  • Physical Requirements:

    The physician needs to be mobile; the job requires sitting, walking, standing, and bending
  • Selected applicant will be required to complete an online on‑boarding process
Duties
  • The physician will manage patients with ongoing medical conditions – outpatient – in collaboration with other services of the FxHCC
  • Interview, examine, select diagnostic testing appropriately, and interpret/collate results to coordinate patient care
  • Communicate and document with clarity to patients and medical personnel to coordinate patient care under midlevel supervision within the Endocrine section if applicable
  • Procedural skills may include interpreting EKGs, reviewing bone density studies, and performing thyroid fine‑needle aspiration biopsies
  • Provide consultative input to outpatient care and collaborate with midlevel providers and physician colleagues with clear communication and documentation
  • Participate in the educational programs for the section personnel and the medical staff
  • Monitor quality, safety, and appropriateness of patient care at the Section and facility level and participate in quality assurance programs and chart reviews
  • Demonstrate ethical conduct and serve as a positive role model to others at all levels of the organization

  • Work Schedule:

    Monday – Friday – 8:00am – 4:30pm EST
  • Pay:
    Competitive salary – annual performance bonus – regular salary increases
