We are actively searching for a highly skilled and driven Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) to become a valued member of our team. The Staff Nurse is an integral part of the health care team. The Staff Nurse assists the healthcare team in a professional manner in the community health center setting.
Responsibilities- Provides clinical services.
- Maintains clinical expertise and competency (to include age-specific competency) and demonstrates thorough knowledge of procedures to deliver quality primary healthcare.
- Documents delivery of healthcare and nursing process in accordance with the Center’s policies and procedures in a timely, accurate, and consistent manner.
- Educates the patient and family / significant others about diagnosis and the plan of care, and acts as a resource for facilitating communication when necessary.
- Coordinates the delivery of patient care provided by the healthcare team.
- Is familiar with PCHM standards and works as part of the medical team to provide patient-centered care.
- Interacts with health center personnel to assist providers and ensure optimal patient care, patient flow, and satisfaction.
- Identifies and responds promptly to changes in patient’s condition and/or clinic environment.
- Coordinates and delegates the timely processing of patient referrals, prescribed medications, and other identified needs of the patient.
- Acts as a resource within the clinic to other staff members regarding patient care.
- Participates as a team member and promotes teamwork by assisting others with patient care and department activities.
- Maintains adequate inventory of medical forms, supplies, in-house medications, STD medications, and immunizations and completes monthly inventory reports as required.
- Performs maintenance and controls on medical equipment and documents results.
- Administers all medications accurately using the five rights of medication administration, documenting medications according to center policy and procedures.
- Upon completion of laboratory skill assessment, perform all laboratory functions according to provider orders.
- Provides clinical oversight under the supervision of the Nursing Supervisor.
- Assumes responsibility for delegating, directing, and supervising patient care activities.
- Identifies Performance Improvement opportunities.
- Serves as a resource and proactive leader for the department.
- Stays current with nursing and healthcare trends and information affecting nursing practice.
- Collaborates with the healthcare team to identify, evaluate, and prioritize patient and family needs to develop a plan of care.
- Participates in the evaluation of products, procedures, and patient care standards.
- Participates in evaluation of healthcare at the Center and monitoring health outcomes of patients.
- Assists in maintaining an efficient, safe, secure, orderly, and aseptic environment of care for all patients and employees.
- Abides by OSHA Standards, Hazardous Materials handling, Universal Precautions, and use of PPE; familiar with Evacuation, Fire, Disaster and Safety Plans.
- If bilingual, translates between non-Spanish speaking staff and Spanish-speaking patients as requested.
- Knowledge of basic principles of health promotion, prevention, and motivation.
- Knowledge of protocols and the ability to quickly learn the Center’s current operational protocols.
- Knowledge of medical terminology and appropriate abbreviations.
- Knowledge of the Texas Nursing Practice Act.
- Ability to read and comprehend medical instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
