The Alaka`ina Foundation Family of Companies (FOCs) is looking for a Millwright Engineering Technician to provide technical support to our government customer located in Ft. Detrick, Maryland
.

The Millwright Engineering Technician shall maintain a comprehensive knowledge of mechanical equipment, engineering principles, Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC), plumbing and heating systems. Conducts a variety of duties which include numerous skills in a variety of trades to include, but not be limited to sheet metal work, welding, steam fitting, fabrication, hydraulics, hot/cold water systems, electrical condensate pumps, pressure powered pumps, heat recovery pumps, vacuum pumps, instrument air, breathing air and laboratory air systems.

DESCRIPTION

OF RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Ensures operation of machinery and mechanical equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements on motors, overhead doors, exhaust fans, supply fans, pneumatic controls, actuators and electrical devices; following diagrams, sketches, operations manuals, manufacturer's instructions, and engineering specifications; troubleshooting malfunctions.
  • Locates sources of problems by observing mechanical devices in operation; listening for problems; using precision measuring and testing instruments. Removes defective parts by dismantling devices; using hoists, cranes, and hand and power tools; examining form and texture of parts.
  • Determines changes in dimensional requirements of parts by inspecting used parts; using rules, calipers, micrometers, and other precision measuring instruments. Adjusts functional parts of devices and control instruments by using hand tools, levels, plumb bobs, and straightedges. Controls downtime by informing workers of routine preventive maintenance techniques and monitoring compliance.
  • Fabricates repair parts by using machine shop instrumentation and equipment. Maintains equipment, parts, and supplies inventories by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed equipment, parts, and supplies; placing and expediting orders; verifying receipt.
  • Conserves maintenance resources by using equipment and supplies as needed to accomplish job results. Provides mechanical maintenance information by answering questions and requests.
  • Prepares mechanical maintenance reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends.
  • Maintains technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing technical publications; establishing personal networks.
  • Maintains continuity among work teams by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs. Ensures a safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
  • Work assignments may include mechanics, electrical, steam fitting, plumbing, lubrication, installation, and general repair and maintenance, sheet metal work, acetylene welding, and/or cutting. Work involves the complete assembly/disassembly of equipment and replacement of worn parts. Installs, relocates, removes, modifies, and performs maintenance, preventive maintenance, cleaning, troubleshooting and repairs on mechanical equipment. Repairs and adjusts vacuum pumps and medical air compressors. Practical knowledge of HVAC and Building Automation Systems.
  • Performs work in bio-containment suites (BSL-3 and BSL-4) in the presence of highly hazardous infectious agents and toxins and is required to participate in Bio-surety Personnel Reliability System.
  • Shall perform after-hour, emergency call back, and variable work schedules as required. Response time for call-ins shall be within one hour of notification.
  • Shall examine and troubleshoot to determine the extent of repairs required, materials or parts needed, and to estimate the time required to complete repairs. Disassemble, repair, and rebuild component parts of general industrial plant equipment, such as pumps, motors, overhead rollup doors, lift gates, air compressors, pop-up bollards and barriers and motorized slide gates. The work requires the ability to interpret and apply the requirements contained in technical manuals, shop directives, multi-view blueprints, and other documents in determining critical dimensions and key reference points.
  • Technicians at this level, independently dismantle, move, and relocate various types of industrial machinery and equipment or install new machinery and equipment. Property anchor building equipment and machinery to foundations.
  • The technicians shall perform on-site inspections as assigned, interpret blue prints for accuracy, confirming specifications, conducting visual and measurement testing, reviewing operation manuals, maintenance plans and procedures, identifying critical parts, develops operational procedures, standing operating procedures and inputting data into database.
