Overview
Non-exempt (compensatory and/or overtime eligible; additional compensation to include annual work boot allowance); full-time; 40 hours per week;
Monday - Friday; 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.; full-benefits
This position involves independent on-site technical inspection of residential and non-residential building installations approvals as required by State and County regulations and requirements. Supervision is received from the Chief Building Inspector or designee.

Responsibilities- Inspect building installations during construction and examine completed installations for use of proper materials and procedures
- Participates in the residential inspection of building, plumbing, electrical and other possible trades
- Perform building plan reviews on commercial projects and other structures
- Maintain records of inspections within electronic computer system
- Check plans and specifications for building installations
- Confer with the Chief Building Inspector on difficult enforcement problems
- Respond to electronic, telephone and in-person inquiries regarding building code requirements and other departmental issues
- Drive a County vehicle to various sites throughout the County to inspect building installations during construction and upon completion to assure the use of proper materials and procedures (may tour sites on foot, climb ladders and stairs, work from scaffolds, etc.)
- Prepare and maintain forms and reports related to inspections performed
- Access the permits tracking system and other automated data sources to research, review and verify information
- Perform other related duties as required
Minimum Qualifications and Requirements:
- High school graduation, or the equivalent
- Minimum 5 years of work experience on a variety of building installations
- Possession of the following certifications or the ability to obtain the following certifications within six (6) months:
- ICC Residential Building Inspector – B1
- ICC Commercial Building Inspector – B2
- Possession of a valid automobile operator's license
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities:
- Ability to maintain County Authorized Driver privileges
- Considerable knowledge of the methods and practices involved in installing, repairing and maintaining a variety of building installations
- Working knowledge of the International Building Code
- Ability to effectively understand and interpret building plans and specifications
- Ability to determine any violations of applicable codes and ordinances; to evaluate corrective actions and to approve work in terms of the International Building Code
- Ability to effectively access and utilize computerized systems and equipment
- Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with contractors, co-workers, and the general public
- Effective spoken and written (English) communication skills
Preference May Be Given For:
